Traffic on its own has no bearings to improving SEO, ranking on serps etc and further there is no way for search engines to know accurately the traffic arriving at your website - except for which it sends through its own search results....

Normally people engage in SEO with the aim of getting more traffic through increased rankings on the search results - primarily through backlinking and on-page seo... Getting more traffic is not a ranking factor.

Since you are getting traffic to your site, you'll have the opportunity to be promoted by your visitor on other sites. Like forums, blogs, etc.

This will earn you natural backlinks enhancing your rankings on Google (as long as the links you get are "follow"). People promoting you will get you more traffic and more backlinks which will impact your SEO. So... yeah it helps. In an indirect way but, it helps.

I agree with the indirect means - but that's all down to chance and luck... In most cases people who click on an ad or social link do not think wow that's amazing and in turn create a backlink from their blog to your website....

Again in simple terms getting traffic to your website is not a ranking factor. If it was then all you would have to do is run ads and you would rank - which is clearly not the case...

Traditionally traffic is not significant off-page factor for increasing you SEO ranking, and we also don't has any concrete proof on it yet.

However many experts look at SEO as something more psychological these days. Thus traffic, bounce rate, stickiness of your audience can indicate the quality of your website and content, and in some way probably affect your SEO performance in term of user experience.

When you mention bounce rates - there are two types... the one that matters is SERP bounce rate and not website bounce rate... SERP bounce rate is when a user makes a search clicks on a result and then returns back to the same search and clicks on other results - which tells Google that perhaps the site you clicked on wasn't so great for that term... Improving your rankings on the SERPs is done through SEO and not through getting more traffic such as from ads...

Yes I agree with that, I just want to show some good aspect of having a good content to a thread starter, it should be better than purely relying on the concrete SEO factors. And if they go back to the SERP i think that would be actually counted in the site bounce rate anyway according to analytic.

In my opinion in modern SEO we should consider the user behavior as well, in term of ranking proof it might be a bit ideal, but it sure is better for me if we can take advantage on that part. :icon_mrgreen:

Exactly, this is just like elcidofaguy said, it's to a chance of luck for people to share your content on other people's sites. Which makes this an indirect thing! it's just like social media.

You go and share your content and if it's good enough it can get reshared on their sites or added in conversations in forums getting you more backlinks. But, who knows if you will get a single backlink, it's pure luck.
