Does Goo.gl block affiliate links from being used/shortened?

I usually use Goo.gl over other URL shortners because of its Analytics that it provides also.

I swear I've been able to use it for all sorts of things in the past.

But is it just me or just recently have you found that it's blocking some affiliate links from being shortened?

I'm trying to shorten a JVZoo affiliate URL this one

http://jvz1.com/c/273033/203693

It does half create it (shows the shortened url and more details link)

But on trying the shortened url it gives error saying this



I can only assume, someone has been spamming jvzoo / goo.gl shortened links and Google has blocked them from being used.

Just goes to show how spamming benefits nobody and how the minority can ruin things for the majority.

Guess I'll have to use bit.ly or use one of my own domains and redirect.

That's the good thing about .xyz's so cheap for this sort of thing.

But still, anyone else notice this or know a way around it?

I haven't tried it in a while, but setting up a subdomain and redirecting it to the offer is the best way to cloak your links. I've never been flagged doing it like this. Sometimes FB will catch on and flag the domain but then I just change the subdomain and it works.

If you setup subdomains you can use the same domain over and over again.

sub.domain.xyz
offer.domain.xyz
product.domain.xyz
etc.........

I never had this experience, maybe the product had a problem.

If it doesn't work try bitly or tinyurl, maybe that would work.

This thing is happened to many other affiliates. If you are using WordPress than you may use affiliate link cloaking plugins like thirsty affiliate, pretty links, etc. All of them are come with click count features so you can monitors the links analytics. It will also have feature to automatically nofollow the links which you have cloaked.

Stuff like this happens all the time when trying to use free link cloakers.

If you have a WordPress site try using Pretty Links Lite for creating your tracking links.

Paid options for cloaking links include:

Link Supercharger
ClickMagick
ClickPerfect
Click.org

Just to name a few.

Never rely on something someone else has total control over to run your business. It's really not that difficult to install a URL shortening script or click tracker on your own domain. This way you control what happens. Not someone else.

The Google Url Shortener does block some affiliate links depending upon what they are and where they are coming from. I've never had success trying to use it with a CPA offer, but then will have some success with a different affiliate offer from a site like click bank. I think it just depends upon what the offer is….hope that helps!
