Are email lists only important to any niches?

I'm a fan of aWeber and used my email list as main internet marketing method. I'm starting to wonder if having an email list matters only any niches?

Does it have the differcen between the list collected from search engine and social media?

Email lists for sure can apply to any given niche... If people have an interest in a topic and want to learn more then list building is a great way to offer that...

Regarding your other question - my opinion is that leads collected from search result referrals perform better than leads collected from social media... The difference is not that big - unless your social media targeting is not accurate... The reason why leads from search generally performs better is because these people are actively looking for something where as leads from social have a stronger element of curiosity....
