There is nothing that is going to accurately give you that data for every website.

Just read their webpages. Most of their target keywords will be pretty obvious.

Tear apart the source code. Look at things like alt tags to get more insights.

If they are stupid, they will have them listed as meta keywords, but that is incredibly stupid and you will not find that on most good sites anymore.

There is simple ways to find the keywords
example: if webiste is related to software developer like mobile apps development compay then they will use keywords more like mobile apps development company or mobile application development company and many more.
sometimes they might be use region wise keywords also like mobile app development company in New york .

so its depends upon the the website which is related.

You can use SemRush, it's a multi-analytical tool that also shows the targetted keywords of a website. Not entirely accurate, but it will definitely give you an impression. What you can also do is type the following in Google:

'site:domainname.com'

And it will show you all the indexed pages of that domain name alone. The titles and URLs that are shown are the keywords the domain name is targetting.

Hope it helped. Goodluck.

Try using ahrefs. It's a good tool and you can also check the domains that the has backlinks from.

If you want to know what keywords a webpage is targeting, simply view its source. Go to the webpage in question, and depending on which browser your using, it will generally be under view tab, (In chrome it is view -- developer --- view source). Click on that and the source for that page will appear. Keywords will generally appear in the top section of the webpage's source, namely its meta info. If its a wordpress site, and a plugin is used, it will generally display in the relevant section.

That only works if the webmaster is an idiot and is dumb enough to actually use meta keywords.

Seriously you've been doing SEO for how long???

You can put in anything you like for meta-keywords and it wont do anything other than to tell your competition your intent... Seriously I wouldn't bother with it... G has a good idea of what your website is about, I encourage you to read up on G's Humminingbird algo... It doesn't matter what you put for meta-keywords, its totally ignored for many, many reasons.... In terms of Internet history its as ancient and as extinct as the dinosaurs lol...

Folks - if any supposed SEO expert bangs on about the value of meta-keywords, run..... and keep running lol....

If you want to have some idea what a website keywords are - a quick way would be to type in the domain into G's keyword planner...

I'm really inspired to get your solution, Finally. Just another query is... If I want to get a list of results showing companies along with the contact details for a keyword or key phrase then which method or place do you like to use for searching?

For that there is no easy solution that I am aware off... You'll first have to build up a list of URLs per keyword phrase and from their attempt to scrape out contact details... Building a list of URLs is easy, for that I would use scrapebox which also has a built in email scraper... Or alternatively (recommended) is that you take that list and assign a task on amazon mechanical turk and get someone to do it for you for next to nothing i.e. $0.01 per contact extraction (should you be seeking additional info such as POC, Address, Telephone etc)...

Hope that helps!

Yes, you are right, actually we can find easily who target what keywords if we have only basic SEO knowledge. Otherwise in this internet world many programmers and developer create much more tools and apps that we can see easily a website targeting keywords. If we think it's difficult so it's will be difficult things that many seo guys thinking.

They don't ignore it, it may not be used in terms of the algorithm but it does play a role in helping search engines to determine what the page is all about. As well as the page content itself.
No you are wrong. they ignore it completely.

http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com/2009/09/google-does-not-use-keywords-meta-tag.html

Q: Does Google ever use the "keywords" meta tag in its web search ranking?
A: In a word, no. Google does sell a Google Search Appliance, and that product has the ability to match meta tags, which could include the keywords meta tag. But that's an enterprise search appliance that is completely separate from our main web search. Our web search (the well-known search at Google.com that hundreds of millions of people use each day) disregards keyword metatags completely. They simply don't have any effect in our search ranking at present.
Q: Does this mean that Google will always ignore the keywords meta tag?
A: It's possible that Google could use this information in the future, but it's unlikely. Google has ignored the keywords meta tag for years and currently we see no need to change that policy.
If it has no impact on search rankings, that means they are not using it to determine what a page is about. They do not use it at all. All of the major search engines have followed suit with what Google does.

I know it is Back to the Future Day today and all, but this is nothing new. They started ignoring meta keywords in like 2003.

No, your wrong, we will have to agree to disagree.

The manipulation was the whole reason that it was taken out of the algorithm, yes, but it being used to determine what a page is about does not influence the rankings, if its not in the algorithm for rankings.

Its not complicated.

Bottom line is that the choice is down to the individual to choose.

Just accept the fact that other people have different opinions and that yours may not be the only one. Its not difficult. I have more than 10 years experience in SEO and have seen and dealt with all the fallouts caused by algo changes etc. I have tested various elements on numerous websites, and that is my opinion. Simples :rolleyes2:

This is not about a difference of opinions. You are avoiding the question.

Like I asked, so what are they using this understanding of what a page is about that they are getting from the meta keywords for?

I have actually tested meta keywords. I'm not just making crap up. They do not impact rankings at all. They do not impact what ads are served up by AdSense. So what else would Google be using this insight for that you claim they are getting from the meta keywords.

Really, come on now, this is getting silly, been a few years since i have had this sort of conversation on a forum.

Of course it is a difference of opinions, you have your opinion and I have mine. That is what is called a difference of opinion.

I'm not avoiding any question, i have made it very clear what my opinion is, read it again as you obviously missed it.

It simply appears that you are looking for an argument. Its such an inconsequential element to be arguing about that i'll leave it there as i have don't have the time.

But just to reiterate....

I have stated quite clearly that Keywords in meta are not used for ranking, so unsure why you keep repeating yourself by saying the same thing. I have tested them as well and can concur with your findings. Keywords in meta tags do not influence rankings, which is exactly what i said in the first place.

Yes, and you said that search engines use them to determine what a page is about. So I'm asking you. If they are using them to determine what a page is about, but not to determine anything to do with the SERPs, then what are they using this information for?

The only reasons that Google cares what a page is about is to determine rankings and what type of ads to serve up for AdSense.

What else is there? That's where you are not making any sense in your "opinion".

What proof do you have that they are using meta keywords for anything at all?

Do you see what I am getting at? I'm not looking for an argument. You stated that you think search engines use them to determine what a page is about. For what? That's where the disconnect is. You are not showing any evidence or reasoning for what they use that information for.

Just use SEMrush. I don't know of a better tool that gives competitor data. This will tell you many of the keywords the competition is getting noticed for.

They just updated their dashboard which I like a lot!

Another benefit of SEMrush is that you can also find keywords from your competitors, competitors and so on. I build really vast keyword lists with SEMrush and pretty quickly!

I also see what keywords competitors are running ads for (also in SEMrush), when looking for high comp keywords with tons of searches. Obviously high comp in AdWords indicates a profitable keyword or else it wouldn't be high comp.

Seriously, LOL, really you need to learn to read, where does it say that i do SEO? I said quite clearly that i have experience in SEO not that i do or offer it as a service like many of those who make out they know what they are talking about.

LOL, agreed, in fact i would go further than that, I would suggest that everyone avoid any so called SEO expert, even those on the forums. :icon_rock:

There is no argument, I was responding to sarcasm, with sarcasm, which is evident.

I would rather have a useful debate on a subject than petty remarks,

I expect more from senior members than comments which are aimed at trying to ridicule another member, especially a new one, unfortunately that was not the case. Simple as that.

However, if thats how it is, then so be it, quite capable of dealing with it.

@OP: There are many paid services that you can use to check their backlink profile and anchor text ratio to find out exactly what they are focusing on. But if you want to do it manually then check out their site meta info like site title, description and keywords. Also you can judge it easily via reading their website articles and you can also find out the keyword density with free online tools.

You still have not answered my question. What are they using the data for that you say they are pulling from meta keywords?

In your own words you state you have more than 10 years experience in SEO :

Seriously meta keywords not being used by search engines is basic SEO... For someone who in their own words state that they have more than 10 years should know better... For the rest I merely pointed out - that should anyone ever encounter a supposed SEO expert whom banged on about the importance of meta keywords to stay away... and seems you agree with that lol...

Reading through this thread its clear that you are repeatedly contradicting yourself...

You can simply check out with the semrush. Or check out the industry and find on the adwords keyword tool to explore the most searchable keywords in a month.

Been reading this was curious on this subject myself. If its okay for me to ask a question under the assumption that using key words and content still matter. I was wondering is it best to have my key words and content to match my page or is it better to build my page to the key words and content that people are looking for. Another words should we try to get people to the page we build or should we try to build a page people are already trying to find?

I see that the easiest way to check whether the keyword that one website get ranking for, is that checking in Google analytic > Acquisition > Search Console > Queries. However, It can not check the competitor's site, just only for site you're own and having statistic in GA.
