Well, here's the thing. It's not really about which is "better." That would depend on what you want to do. However, having your own product (assuming you know what you are doing) is more lucrative. As affiliate marketers, when we earn commissions, that money is split between us and the product creator. Whenever an affiliate makes a commission, the customer that made the purchase is also added to the product creator's list, so they can e-mail them about products down the line (whether it's their own product or one they are promoting as an affiliate). Studies have shown that once a customer buys something from you once, they are far more likely to do it, again. Usually, marketers will start out as affiliates and then move into product creation (but not always). The reason for this is because product creators have to have the same skills as an affiliate (and more) in order to be successful.

A big part of selling your own products is if you have good products that are in demand. If you don't have good products that people will want to buy then it would definitely be better to go with affiliate marketing.

Another thing to consider is that with affiliate marketing you don't have to worry about keeping any kind of inventory/stock.

Affiliate marketing take time to promote/market, which many people don't realize. Many people think they can just slap up a few affiliate ads on their websites and the money will come rolling in. It doesn't usually work that way. If you are going the affiliate marketing route then you have to be willing to spend some time to promote/market the products or services that they are for.

They sure both have their pro's and con's.

I did affiliate marketing for almost my first 10 years online. I liked the low level of responsibility. As long as my sites were running and traffic was flowing, there was nothing I "had" to do. You never needed to help customers. Actually you never need to deal with any one. I think it was my first year of full time I took like 2 months off. My sites were running, hits coming in, money being made, so I chilled.

But as mentioned, with affiliate marketing you don't always get all the money. Usually you make the one sale and the affiliate program get's future sales. That can vary of course, but in general. Some programs have longer cookies, or recurring.

Though, will agree, selling your own can usually mean more income. Not only getting those customers in your funnel, but getting the return/repeat sales.

Selling your own products or services means your customer support though. So you have to "be there" more. And some people are not good at support. Love my wife and she is a very nice person, but I've never let her do customer support and she agree's. Gotta have thick skin sometimes.

All depends on the person. Not every one is cut out to sell their own. Some don't want to sell their own. Yes you might not be making as much with affiliate marketing, but you gain more freedom with affiliate marketing. Depends on what's more important.
