In a world where we rely on computing for everything, every company; small and big, entrepreneurs face the challenge of where to host their data. With the endless amount of data we’re pumping out on a daily basis, Security, easily accessible, and a relatively low cost for hosting is what we often look out for; we also need somewhere that can handle it all (Reliability).

Hosting on the cloud or with a dedicated server are the two major options for hosting today. The aim for this article is to understand which one is better? And what’s the difference? That’s why we’re here – to explain both options and help you determine what’s right for you.

Cloud Hosting:
The cloud – is actually a virtual real-time environment that is hosted by multiple connected servers all at once. It’s a relatively new concept, but its spreading rate indicates its change the way we think about data storage.

Cloud hosting has many advantages, which is why it has become so popular. It’s extremely reliable, because even if one of the connected servers goes down, the other servers will maintain hosting. Because the cloud is run on multiple servers, you can easily add more servers enabling seemingly endless scalability. Cloud hosting is essentially synonymous with the Internet (to most people, it’s the same thing), so like the Internet you can access your data from anywhere in the world. All this at a relatively low cost too, which is typically pay per usage. While some companies may have concerns over security, cloud hosting firms like VPB LLC (VPB Servers) help companies overcome this by offering dedicated IT support and establishing strict controls.

Dedicated Servers:
Rather than store your data in some unknown virtual environment, many companies choose to use their own dedicated servers. A dedicated server is exactly how it sounds – a server that someone buys or leases to manage all the data. It’s kind of like using your personal computer, but on a much grander scale. This is the most traditional route for hosting.

There are plenty of advantages associated to Dedicated servers. They are much safer and offer better performance because the connections are direct. They also offer full control of your data management. When you run out of storage space, you simply need to get an additional server to handle the new load. Of course, servers arent perfect and do occasionally go down, but a quick fix can bring all your data back to normal. And VPB LLC will always be there to assist you with that.

What’s Right For You?
When it comes to hosting, the biggest difference between cloud and dedicated server lies in the security and accessibility. Some people might say the cost matters, but when it comes to hosting your all-important data, cost should not be an inhibitor. It’s more important to get the right service.

If your company manages highly sensitive data – for instance, financial data or personal identity information – then dedicated servers are the way to go. They may cost more in the long run compared to the cloud, but as the saying goes, “you cant put a price on security”, especially when that security is for vital personal information.

For all other companies, cloud hosting is the way to go. Your data will be accessible around the clock and from anywhere in the world, so you can keep your business running with consistency. The cloud can quickly keep up with your company’s growth and you only pay for the hosting you need.

I have always used dedi's. I have never tried to use a cloud server. I have never looked into them either. Could you give me more information? Thanks

Cloud servers are often confused with the VPS, as both are based on virtualization and come with many of the same advantages. Much of the definition however depends on the particular host provider. We at VPB LLC (VPB Servers) have taken cloud computing to another level by creating a distinctly different virtualized environment. In dedicated servers and most virtual private servers the storage disks and the processing power are all in one physical host machine, but with VPB the storage back-end and the compute nodes are run separately. This provides many advantages such as easy scalability and redundancy through automation over the traditional virtualization platforms while still guaranteeing a highly competitive performance and pricing. In short – this is our definition of a cloud server regarding the technical backend. If you need more infos, you can always ask.

For now, I think I will stick with dedicated servers. There are still points of failure on a cloud server.

As rightly said by SenseiSteve. Dedicated server is better when compared to Cloud. There are drawback of Cloud Server such as Downtime, Security, Min Control to the Users etc.

Dedicated server will be best choice .. you will get full control over your Server and can setup your own security aspects to secure data on server.

Technically, a cloud server should be hosted across multiple servers. This is what would give it high-availability. Many different failovers should be in place.

There is a lot of market confusion regarding the cloud, making it hard for consumers to distinguish. At this time, it is best to stick with a dedicated server from a reliable hosting company.

I'll stay with dedicated servers. More stable, as there's been reports of problems with many "cloud" providers.
As mentioned - there is a lot of confusion regarding the cloud. Some providers claim their platform is cloud - where as in fact it's just a VPS with the option to bill hourly.
