Hello Webmasters,

I want to learn affiliate marketing and maybe make some money in the future. I am not looking for a get rich in a week kind of program. I am looking for something legit and worth learning.

From your experience, what important things should I learn to succeed with affiliate marketing?
Learn from an ebook, a course, a friend or trying to join some affiliate programs, ask questions about affiliate marketing on this forum or something else?

Any suggestions would be awesome. Thank you all!

Well you learn from doing. And reading. There is a lot of information out there online. I know it might sound silly but have you tried to search in Google for "Affiliate marketing tips" etc etc?

What you need to do is get a pen and paper out (or Notepad even on your PC) and then write down 5 subjects that you are most passionate about.

Then out of those 5 subjects try to list them in order of most passion. So most passionate about goes to the top at number 1.

Then try to write 5 reasons why you are most passionate about that subject.

Then what you need to do is try to find and identify 5 key areas of that subject people have a problem with.

Then you need to come up with 5 ways to offer a solution or fix to that problem.

So now you've identified a niche or subject you are most passionate about and trust me that will pay dividends later on.

There's no point in picking something you don't care about as you'll get bored easy and give up easier.

Now what you need to do is go about thinking of a brand name for your business and then creating a website for it.

Possibly WordPress site so you can easily write and publish new articles on your subject.

Go about writing articles and sales letters on your site that propose a solution to peoples problems.

Try to write 1000 word articles at the least. Especially for your first posts!

Try to include several unique images in each post and use Alt tags etc.

Then go about building up a social presence online by creating a Facebook Page, a Twitter account, a Pinterest board etc etc

You can use sites like [URLnofo]http://knowem.com[/URLnofo] and [URLnofo]http://namecheckr.com/[/URLnofo] to see if your brands keywords are available.

That's what those sites were created!

There you go that's my 5cence for you. Hope its enough to inspire you and get you started in Affiliate Marketing!

Oh make sure you set up a subscriber form with something like MailChimp so you can start building a list!

Good luck!

It's all about driving traffic. There is no end to the affiliate products and services you can promote, that is the easy part. No shortage of stuff to sell.

So as Hawker has already mentioned you need to learn how to push traffic to your website/blog. And it's often trial and error, testing to see what works and what doesn't.

Affiliate marketing is not really that complicated. You have a website, offer something for sale on your site, and get people to your site. Sure you could add more and make it more complicated, but that is a bare basics.

One other key that MANY people miss, is you need to track your advertisements on your website/blog. They should always be in test mode, which tracks how they are converting, or not converting. We do not have an unlimited supply of hits, so the smart marketer makes the most of every hit, by tracking to see which ads covert the best.

Sorry, I would not recommend using MailChimp. They don't like marketers, unless they've changed their stance. If your serious you need to get a quality and professional PAID autoresponder service like Aweber or GetResponse.

Just my two cents :)

Personally I don't think you need to invest HUGE money in learning affiliate marketing by sign up for the so called "gurus" online course. You would do well with an ebook. The catch here is to start on a small scale and learn on the job.

First you should get an Ebook (They're cheap) on the basics of affiliate marketing, it would be a guide just in case you run into any issue. There are various books so I can't make any recommendation. Get the book and start a website/blog. Read from others experience. Most successful affiliate marketers have theit own personal blog where they share experience and promote other products about Making money online.

Don't take you first site very serious, just see it as a lab rat (in other words don't invest huge money on ads, design and writing) until you feel adequate enough to get on with it.

You should learn about the following:

Keyword research
Competition research
SEO
Wordpress Design and Setup
Ads(Facebook, Google, POF and others)
Email Marketing
Photoshop
Writing/CopyWriting

I had to list out those topics because it's advisable to get a book written specifically on them not just a book that summarize everything. You never stop learning, so get to it and stick to it.

You either quit or you win.

Hello,

First of all you need to learn how to drive traffic to your website and after that how to monetize this traffic.
In order to drive traffic to your website you need to learn about SEO.
The best place to learn about SEO is the blog moz.com. If you know SEO (I assume you don`t because you are asking questions here) just tell us and I will tell you what is the next step.

Making money online, like computers, is very "hands on." It's about learning and then implementing what you learn. Because of this, I prefer to learn from video-oriented courses like Affiloblueprint by Mark Ling. it cuts out a lot of the confusion because he teaches you how to build a site by allowing you to look over his shoulder and build a site right along with him. It's kind of like a private tutor situation. It's really cool. Even though it's designed to be done over some weeks, you can go as fast or slow as you want. The good thing about niche blogging (what the model you're referring to is called), is that once you set up the foundation, it's just a matter of cranking out content and repeating the process.

Hey there @roggy

Like has already been mentioned.. traffic development is the key to the whole thing... That being said.. that really is only half the story. Its what you do with that traffic once you have it that determines success and failure.

The most common method to converting a traffic source is the development of a list. IF you are doing commerce related affiliate marketing, this step is not always needed. But if you are selling weight loss or Making Money or that stuff.. it is just short of a requirement. The BEST advice I could give you is to get on mailing list... and I am not talking one or 2 10 different ones every few weeks. create a dedicated e-mail address for just this. Over the years there have been 3 marketers that have influenced what it is I do in my e-mail marketing. The first is HubSpot.. just love their delivery, their content, everything about it.. just top of the line stuff. They are at that level of "together" that i aspire for.

The next one is a little marketer Luke Corden. This guy.. you have to just get on the guys list. his e-mails will straight up SHOCK you... He literally is playing in a field of his own... If Luke is at one extreme of the spectrum, then Digital Kickstart is on the other - in a good way i might add here. These guys just throw it at you product after product after bundle after product... and I damn near read everyone they send... its no so much what they are doing.. ( I hate constant sales pitches ) its HOW they are doing it... I cant say I have ever bought from them... but I can very much see why this type of communication would be really effective.

The other thing I would suggest.. is learning the process... what does that look like, what order are things done.. and more importantly when in a timeline of events that these elements play out where they actually thought of and developed? If you are just starting this wont make sense... but to give you an idea. you are going to sell a product. You build a squeeze page you get their e-mail,and then you try to sell them something right... ok now they are on your list... When was the series of e-mails after the first pitch developed? I would answer way before the squeeze page was even developed. - read this forum and many others just like it and youwill read.. well now I have to send them stuff..what should I say? IF you are reacting in Internet Marketing.. its already to late.

See the process for what it is,and learn how you can stay ahead. Be proactive in your efforts, and things are a ton smoother.

Read as much as you can here or at other forums and come up with a plan. Focus on one thing and work it until it makes sales.. then scale.. Or you could find yourself a mentor it will cut down on your learning curve..

The way that I have been learning about affiliate marketing is to read as much as I can on the subject on the affiliate marketing blogs that I have found.

Then if you don't understand or want to know something then you can ask the people here for some information. Lots of people have been helping me learn here so I am sure that they would also help you.

I've been learning by just going out and reading about the things I want to learn about, meaning particular aspects of affiliate marketing. I do some searching in Google and check out the topics here to see what I can find out.

If there's something I can't find, can't figure out or don't understand and I can't find the info I need then I start a topic here and some members usually help me out pretty quickly with what I need to know.

Some things you just have to get out there and try to learn by doing, making mistakes and successes and then trying to improve on what you do. I know that I don't always do that myself but I have learned a lot by doing that.

step 1: Pick a profitable niche ( internet marketing niche is a good one. )

step 2: Build a list and keep building that list

Step 3: Learn how to put a high converting funnel into place

Step 4: Drive traffic paid and free but remember paid is better because it is scalable

Step 5: collect your money

There is the secret formula

A good advice is to just start doing it. Just reading and learning new stuff won't get you anywhere.
learn a new thing, implement it, learn a new one > test/implement it and you should start to see results.

I tried to stick to theory first but it did not go well. You have to apply it along the way or be exposed to the application of it to understand it better.

You also need to know the tools useful for which type of traffic to target.
Forums give you advice you'd might not get from the ebooks.
Join conferences or watch Youtube videos and be updated with the trend of the market.

Try to find webinars with specialists, thy always will answer your question, try to follow some blogs (the best ones: specialists blogs or marketing company blogs, there are very good tips and what is important: very reliable.) Also, you can read forums but you have to b more patient here, lots of us are working in affiliate marketing, but we are just people and sometimes we can be wrong, but it happened rarely in good forums. It all give you a theory, from practice but still, it's just a theory. Try to be active, maybe not your own business, but you can try to hire some company and you will see how it really works.

Go and study your competition instead and you will learn what really works!

Sign up to affiliate programs and choose a product that you want to promote.
Then go to google and type in the name of the product and review, and you will see the top 5 competitors right there.

Look at their pages and content and learn from them..

But you can study search engine optimization and how to write pre sell reviews, google it and you can find everything you need to know for free :)

I read somewhere this "The most effective way to do it, is to do it" I know it sounds pretty obvious :)

Lots of excellent advise above but I'd highlight the importance of writing and creating ORIGINAL content such as articles, images and how to videos.

Good luck
