OK, as an avid buyer and seller of online goods, I have to say, I am
usually confronted with a fair share of OTO's, upsells and downsells
throughout the day, HOWEVER...

Am I the only one here who gets very IRATE (to be polite) when I am
bombarded with an upsell, then 12 different downsells?

I mean, 2, possibly 3, and the leave me alone. Am I right? Don't get me
wrong, I know all about the "funnel" process, but 12 freaking up/down
sells? Really?

Is that really necessary?

How many OTO's and/or up/down sells do you offer on your site(s)?

Twelve OTOs LMAO... I imagine that a lot of folks will want their money back immediately afterwards... I reckon 3 max in a funnel - for the rest you can promote on your email or members area at a later date...

I sh*t you not. 1 upsell followed by 2 downsells and then 3 more
cycles of each, totalling 12 different offers. I was beyond upset
to say the least.

The worst part is that the person who referred me to the particular
site is a good friend of mine and an amazing marketer. If he weren't
such a good friend, I would obviously have to second guess whether
or not to follow any of his future leads, you know... It's amazing how
far some people are willing to test the waters, you know.

I was extremely tempted to close out after the first round and then
the 2nd UPsell and ask for a refund, but I really wanted the product,
well, my wife does anyways, LOL.

OTT OTO's are the main reason people unsubscribe. You're meant to keep people intrigued not inundated. Some EM's are far too zealous for their own good.

Yipes, 12 would tip me over the edge. I always know 2 or 3 are coming as they're to be expected, but 12?

You know, even 2 or 3 still usually upsets me, and let me explain
why... I am all about upselling, especially when the customer is
in the buying mood, but hell, even McDoughBlows doesn't hound
you with 3 different upsells . . .

However, yes, I agree, I have grown accustom to 2 or 3 as the
norm, which is ffffffff-ine (sorry, had to pull it out, lol), but 12
really pissed me off. I am not usually one to ask for a refund,
even if I do not end up liking the actual product after I have
purchased it, but, I was SO close to demanding one that day,
but since I knew my wife would use it, I didn't, LOL.

Although I should have regardless, even if just to recoup a small
amount for the time I wasted having to deal with all those damn
offers, LOL.

Hi Developer,
12 oto's...

I am sure I would be screaming by then...

Just like those massively long sales videos that go on and on and on...

I have a plan to save me from that stuff.

I usually just check out the funnel before I enter it so I know what I am in for.

Mostly the platform is shown on the payment button, or sometimes it is as easy as just adding /jv or /affiliate to the domain name.

Sometimes I do a goggle search.

Ten minutes and I usually know what I am in for.

I have no problem with oto's or upsells really, if they offer something of value, but at the same time I am very aware of the Shiny Object Syndrome.

I try to be sensible about my purchases, but I am always glad to learn something new.

cheers, Mal.

I think people should be more honest about total costs.

Your asking the wrong people. Ask that question of a seasoned marketer and 9 out of 10 will probably say it's too much, it's irritating, blah, blah, blah.

But ask the people who buy most of the "stuff" and it will probably be a different answer. Just like asking marketers if they hate pop-ups, and more will say yes they do. But marketers are usually not the target. And while marketers hate pop-ups, they are effective, they do work.

You know why they do all the OTO's/upsells/downsells, sadly because it works. And you know the big guys test and track, they know what they are doing.

Worst yet, your friend most likely sends people to that product because the funnel works well, makes a good profit and probably has a great EPC. It's all about the EPC.

Thanks for venting :)

Considering all the upsells and downsales that I have ran into it, I would only use a limit of three. One upsell, then a down sale, then send to merchant, then get on my buyers list. Promote more on the back end.

Eventually marketers just see facts and figures. They see funnel statistics and care very little about how people feel as long as they're making money.

It's hard to fight this and it's something every marketer continually battles with or succumbs too.
