I have a good blog up, for about 10 months now, but It doesn't have a lot of traffic, just 50 visitors a day. I currently post about once a month, as I'm working on making my own product currently. Would it be worth my time to try to post several times a week in order to gain more traffic and build my list?

I am not trying to sound like an ass here, however, your question is just
like asking "I've had a job for almost a year now. I go in to work about 1X
per month but my paychecks seem to be very small. Would my checks be
any bigger if I decided to work 40 hours per week instead of just 1 day a
month?"

Of course you should post daily. Not posting because you are creating
a product is not a valid excuse or reason. In fact, use that as the premise
of your daily posts. AND, I wouldn't limit it to just one post per day either.
I would certainly post at LEAST once per day, but post once in the morning
and provide an update to the product creation. Then post again later in the
afternoon with some form of article related to the subject of your blog and
then again in the evening with yet another update or another informational
blog post.

Post about the product, post what accomplishments you made that
day, hell, even post any setbacks you've encountered.

If you're a product developer, you definitely want to figure out a way to get
some buzz going about your product, even long before it actually exists. This
is also a great way to know whether your product will be a bang or a bust with
your readers (which is ultimately who you're creating it for anyway, right?)

If you're creating a product which will be high in demand, then your visitors
would love to know about the process and how things are going. Besides, the
feedback you could receive would be priceless, plus, if you get your visitors
actively involved in the development process, they are also more likely to
purchase when released because they will feel like they have been a part
of it.

You definitely need to post more than once a month. Of course, the more, the better. That will help the SE's know that your site is more active and increase it's crawl rates.

However, sometimes posting every day isn't possible for everyone. If you can post daily, that's great, but at least a few times a week would greatly increase the activity on your site and it's traffic.

Lets REALLY break this down... you have a good blog... says who? you? whats your returning visitor percentage? that would be an indicator of a "Good Blog". Even with minimal traffic, if they are finding you and returning for more.. then you know you are onto something!

Right now you are posting once a month, because you are focusing your efforts on a product.. PLEASE dont tell me its a crash course in developing traffic.. but anyways... Part of the success in selling product is being an Authority..and part of being an authority is having posts / videos / tweets whatever that may be good indicators that you indeed are an authority in whatever your "Product" may be. Content doesnt just DRAW traffic, it should really convert the traffic you are getting into believers... they need to believe you know what you are talking about.. they should believe that after reading 8 posts on your site, your product will work...

Content is about developing relationships... building a tribe, developing a following, demonstrating authority. these are the factors that for the most part dictate success when you slide over to the commerce aspect of an online business.

Think of it this way... content is a TV commercial... the more you see a commercial, the more chances the brand will be in your head the next time you are at the store... "the best part of waking up..." so everyday, might be excessive... can you write good content EVERY day? 2 times a week maybe... without saying there is a product coming.. start identifying some of the pains that your product solves... get the seeds of traffic out there.. start targeting your traffic NOW, so when you do release your product there might actually be people there to buy it.

Like people above me said, you should try to post more often.
Post once a week at first and see how that goes.
Remember to always post in the same day and at the same hour in order for your audience to know when to expect your articles

doesn't matter how much you post if no one knows about your site.

Posting on daily basis is really a tricky job. To post regularly you have a lot of content ideas in your mind. However posting 2 to 4 posts in a week is a good way to gain some potential and loyal readers. people love blogs that are updated on a regular interval. I usually post 3 to 5 posts in a week to my blog and its really help me to maintain my blog traffic.

Yes you should be posting more than once a month.
I too am guilty of not posting enough.

But, how long are you planning on posting every day. With that rate you are sure to run our of steam very quickly.
Maybe ramp it up to 2 posts a week. at least your visitors will come to expect new content weekly.

Some people are talking about how difficult it is to post every day...

I want to introduce you to the power of "the habit".

When you make something a habit, it becomes easy, because you don't even have to think about it; you just do it.

There are thousands of books written on the subject, but some quick tips:

1. Try and do it at roughly the same time every day if you can. This'll make it easier.
2. A habit is formed after about 21 consecutive days usually, but sometimes it can take up to 90 days. The point is, don't miss a day. And if you do, just start again!
3. If you think it takes a long time, it's because it probably does. BUT! The more often you do it, especially if you do it everyday, the learning process is accelerated and you will get faster.
4. The power of the habit comes from the increased ease as well as the power of the compound effect and consistency.
5. You can try using a calendar or spreadsheet to tick off each day you write your blog post, and this will help with the reward system in your brain, as well as accountability.
6. Speaking of accountability, why not team up with someone also looking to start writing daily? Then you can hold each other accountable, making the process easier and more effective. You could even share each other's content every now and again!
7. One final point: People think doing it every day is tough because they don't stick it out. The first 3 days feel impossible, the next 7 days are unbearable, but after 21 days you are UNSTOPPABLE. Keep going, and just remember that you've come too far to quit now. If you're on day 4 and you quit, you'll have to go through that pain again... But if you keep going, you'll be unstoppable in a short 3 weeks time. :)

OH and as added motivation you could increase your traffic by sharing/posting your blog posts on forums where they'll help the demographic there.

Hope this helps.

Cheers
Cam

I think there's no magic formula of how many articles you need to post everyday. It depends on your quality of the website, your keywords, your competitors, your content,...and many other onpage factors. However you should try to focus on quality instead of quantity, I think so.
And beside the articles you need to post on your own website, you need to spend time to do backlinks as much as possible, and don't forget trying to get quality backlinks too.
