How to check performance of a dedicated server?

Hi,

I wanted to check the performance a dedicated server which a hosting provider offering me. It has linux operating system with webmin control panel.

I don't have more knowledge of Linux, could anyone help me how to check the performance of the server. I want to know about the load time, speed at in any countries, test capacity if it has large of visitors.

Simply, just go to http://serverbear.com/ and take a "Run a Benchmark" and then you will recive a email with info.

Are there any way to do it myself without using tools out there?

For example I want to check from command line.

Well, in terms about load time and speed you could use the following tools:
https://gtmetrix.com/
http://tools.pingdom.com/fpt/
http://www.webpagetest.org/
Note these test the loading time of your website.

If you run commands from SSH to check server performance, you should already have an existed server to compare.
