I would suggest you to beware of using host that are part of EIG group. You should go with Non EIG brands like siteground, one.com, aadyahost.com etc all of them are good shared hosting providers. if you have some good budgets than you should go with managed WordPress hosting like Godaddy, WpEngine, Kinsta etc.

Pretty much any shared hosting account will work fine for a new Wordpress site. As your site grown, you may need to move to a VPS, but when your just starting out, a VPS would be a waste of money.

For a new tech WordPress blog, shared hosting should be fine. I would not go with GoDaddy though, or any EIG brand, unless of course you like headaches down the line, as we constantly read of issues these providers have, most notably what parameters are set in place for WordPress and the length of time it takes them to resolve issues.

Shared hosting is fine.

But do you need specialised WordPress hosting?
The major definition of that is they manage most of it, and you do the content.

Or are you happy with doing it yourself?

The majority of folks on this forum frown upon any EIG owned hosting
providers, however, I have HAPPILY been hosting my business and personal
sites with Host Gator (an EIG owned entity) for the last 6+ years and I have
NEVER had ANY problems, however, this post is not to argue those merits.

You asked which hosting company would be a good fit for you. Unfortunately,
no one here can tell you, with any degree of certainty, which one would be
best for YOU since everyone's needs, including yours, vary widely.

What you need to do is figure out what features and benefits YOU are looking
for in a hosting provider and use due diligence when searching for such.

Our own Web Hosting section includes many many reputable hosts so you may
want to start your search from within the WS forums.

As for whether or not you should look into VPS, there really is no need for a VPS
unless you are 100% certain you will need the resources and space afforded by
a VPS which would otherwise not be available with a regular shared hosting provider.

I strongly suggest starting with a shared provider and then keeping an eye on the
system resources allotted with whichever company/plan you elect to use. This way,
you can see exactly when, if ever, you should consider a VPS.

In most cases, shared hosting will suit your needs for quite some time to come, so
there is no need for the added expense.

you can really host a wordpress site anywhere. Nothing really special needed and what is required is pretty standard to all hosts. Shared hosting is usually enough if you're not planning on using a large amount of plugins for the site. Those can really cause the resource usage to skyrocket. So any shared host should be good for a small to medium wordpress site

For the project you want, shared web hosting should be fine.

If your projects will grow in the future, make sure to choose a Cloud based hosting so you can scale it up quickly later.

Also, think about getting SSD.

@SharedHost: A sincere thanks for sharing your thoughts, however, instead of just making a suggestion, could you expand upon it? Why, in your opinion, should one consider getting SSD?

Please share as much info as you can to explain why you suggest what you have suggested. This will help increase the amount of inter-activeness within the forum as well as help keep these valuable threads going...

Sure, no problem. The topic main subject is not about SSD, but I have no problem explaining why (in my opinion) I'd go with a SSD hosting instead of the classic HDD.

1. The Price Is The Same

There is no price difference between a classic web hosting and a SSD hosting. While not all web companies offer SSD hosting, if you check the prices between a SSD and non-SSD company you will see the prices are the same. Which is a good thing.

A explanation for this is that Solid State Drives tend to get cheaper with the years going by.

2. Faster Websites With SSD

Faster read/write speed also decreases the loading time of your website because it takes less seconds for SSD to give you the information you need.

3. Improved uptime for your websites

A SSD server can handle more requests to your server due to the fact that the read/write it takes less time. The old HDD takes more time because it has to "spin the disk".

I hope that clarifies some things.

Good luck choosing the best option for you. Take your time, don't rush!

Correct, however, when making a suggestion, more will be received if you explain why that is YOUR preference which will ultimately help readers make a more informed decision should they decide to heed your advice as well. Thanks for the new post. Love it!

I think you should try VPS hosting, it would be a better option for you. There are different VPS hosting providers available in the market. But it is difficult to point out a single name. I suggest you to do a simple research to find out the best option for you. Here you will find complete comparison among different VPS hosting provider. You may find it helpful.

Actually from what I've seen, SSD IS slightly higher in price.

Although, I feel it's worth it, it's something I opted for when picking my last host.

VPS is a good option, but you DON'T need it as others have suggested. With just a wordpress blog it's probably over kill. As already mentioned by RDO.

I agree, start with good shared host and a host that you can grow with, such as moving to VPS later as you need it.

It doesn't matter too much. I use hostripples personally they are alright.. But if you are going to be having lots of viewers then you'll want to move onto something bigger and better ( and pricier )

Simple shared hosting is perfect to get started. Once your traffic increase and more content is added, you should upgrade to a VPS or cloud platform. Always choose a host that offers easy upgrade and is willing to help as well.

First of all I am very happy for you that you are starting a new tech blog. Yes WordPress is the best choice for your new tech blog and for hosting my recommendation is cloud hosting. Checkout fast WordPress hosting on managed servers is the best you can go for.

A decent shared hosting package should do the job to start, as the blog/CMS get's busier, by all means, a VPS or Dedicated Server would be best. It all really depends on the craftmanship of the theme your using and any plugin bloat but if everything is coded nicely and clean, you should be good!

I've been hosting my websites with hawkhost for 2 years now.

Haven't had any trouble with them. Never noticed any downtime.

They did a good job of moving my files over to them after I signed up.
