Hello Friends,

I have just read an article at https://www.searchenginejournal.com/https-pages-front-page-google-reach-50-june-2017/187079/ It said that HTTPS pages on front page of Google could reach 50% by June 2017. This is a clear indication that Google now start prioritize HTTPS sites and rank them well in search engine result page.

That does not mean that if you install SSL on your site can help you to get rank in Google. The question arise here is that Google force webmasters to use SSL on their websites? what do you guys think of it? I highly welcome your ideas.

With regards,
Vishwa

I think that another one of the reasons that there are so many SSL/HTTPS websites that are ranking higher in Google and will continue to do so are the facts that people and businesses are getting more scared of Google and all the publicity surrounding the use of SSL/HTTPS for their websites.

Of course the fact that Google is giving some rankings boost to SSL/HTTPS websites is a part of the changes in HTTPS visibility at the top of their rankings and Google will more than likely give bigger rankings improvements in the future to SSL/HTTPS websites. That's what Google wants, so they will do all they can to get it.

Google can be very intimidating to some people and them forcing or trying to force people to do things that they want is likely to be the way for a long time.

Google says that this SSL certification has an impact fewer than 1% of global queries but said they may decide to strengthen the signal because they want to encourage all website owners to switch from HTTP to HTTPS to keep everyone safe on the web. While the primary purpose of SSL is securing information between the visitor and your website, there are benefits for SEO as well.

I would recommend using them, even if your site doesn't do transactions. FireFox just rolled out in their last update the other day letting anyone log in to a website to be sure if the user wants to go ahead because the site hasn't got a secure connection. As of the other day every time now I try to log into a site that hasn't got HTTPS I get the following warning:

This connection is not secure. Logins entered here could be compromised. Learn more
This is the link for "Learn more":

https://support.mozilla.org/t5/Protect-your-privacy/Insecure-password-warning-in-Firefox/ta-p/27861

Here is a screenshot:

So, I think as a webmaster you'll want to have an HTTPS connection so it might not discourage any of your users.

Google Chrome has also implemented this within their browser marking it in red near the address bar.

I don't think they force webmasters to use ssl, that's just a recommendation and it is better for our sites.
I am still considering moving all my sites to ssl but I don't know it can affect to my site traffic or not.
Does any one tried to move to SSL? after moved, your traffic increased or decreased?

Google Chrome has also implemented this within their browser marking it in red near the address bar.
Can you show a screenshot for this? why I don't see it on my non-https sites.

I did this almost a year with some of my sites. I can't honestly say I saw any changes in SEO or traffic. But having said that, it's hard to determine as my traffic is consisitly on the increase due to my personal SEO efforts.

The above is one of them. But recently I've personally haven't seen much, makes me wondering if Googles doing another one of their AB testings again. But they did announce they would roll this out in the beginning of 2017. This is what Google stated:

As announced in September, Chrome will soon mark non-secure pages containing password and credit card input fields as Not Secure in the URL bar.

This document is intended to aid Web Developers in updating their sites to avoid this warning.

Here are some helpful articles about this...

https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/6073543?hl=en

https://security.googleblog.com/2016/09/moving-towards-more-secure-web.html

I hope this has helped.

Yes, Most of the browsers now provide a small red icon to the address bar if the website is not using SSL. I also doing some research online. For example, I have search for "How to promote a blog" in Google. The interesting thing is that the 90% of the sites in first page are of SSL. That means the site are using SSL. So, Google now pushing sites with SSL.

A few weeks back there was a flurry of new product launches that addressed Google's new interest in SSL sites. It does look like the big G is moving toward favoring higher security.

The major pain point in the marketing content for those products was that Google will soon be awarding lower ranking to those sites that don't have SSL addresses.

Google has not yet announced this, but mentioned in webmaster blog as this will be consider as ranking factor in coming days.
However SSL is useful to create and enhance trust among online visitors towards website. although the discussion here is very effective. Thanks for initiation.

Yeah I also read this in my Google webmaster tool but I don't know it can affect SEO ranking or not.
We should move all sites to https to have better rankings?
Does your site take credit card info or require users to login to use it? If not, those warnings don't pertain to your site. If you do take credit cards and haven't been using SSL, you're crazy.

Yes, they did announce it. Last year.

I tried to search about this information and some said it helped increasing rankings for their keywords while some said their traffic was dropped after moving to SSL.
I don't know which is true or wrong from those info.

No it doesn't get credit card info but requiring user to login and using my site. But it warned in Google webmaster tool for any URLs that included words as credit card or Paypal and other bank names.
I think they noticed that mean they are considering ssl as an important point to rank and trust any websites using ssl.
