Are keywords still the most important factor?

Ever since SEO became a thing (or, at least, ever since it started to gain some renown), everyone has been looking for new ways to make their sites score higher in search ranks. And what's easier to set than well-known parameters such as keywords, through just a few lines of code?
However, with the introduction of social medias and mobile devices, many more criteria have been introduced and taken into account. Web design and navigability, mentions, visits, overall reliability etc. have all become important, and webmasters, in order to survive, had to adapt.

How do the old parameters such as keywords fare now? I know they're still very important, but now that it can't possibly all boil down to choosing the most fitting and the most clicked keywords for our website, how much effort should one put into this? And, furthermore, how much do they influence search results now compared to other aforementioned criteria?

The concept of seo can not be considered dead but with the update from google, it has changed dramatically. Earlier seo was one of the most important factors to rank sites at the top of search engines but now it is one of 100 other factors that Google considers while ranking one page. Web. Factors such as content quality, outbound links, inbound links, social media sharing, easy sharing etc. are factors that now play a vital role in web analytics and ranking. Classify it accordingly.
That is the position of the keyword that is important rather than the frequency. It's still important to put long tail keywords and short tail keywords in the url, page title, meta description, image description etc. but the frequency of the keywords is not a concern anymore. The trend of using keywords again in content is now back to days rather than repeating keywords that can reduce the profit margins of the content.

That was definitely a move for the best on Google's part. I remember that, back then, people used to purposely write content filled with popular keywords to score higher, but that, of course, couldn't possibly work together with high quality.
So, to sum it up, keywords have lost their monopoly now, and the focus has shifter from number (in both quantity and number of clicks) to quality (positioning, frequency in meta tags, etc.). Looks like an improvement to me.

Keywords are still an important factor because its the basic core to find the related queries for the users then it will evaluate if this page/pages are engaging with the right people.
