Is Typography a Trend?
Typography now has become a part in it self in webdesign, forget about flat dull Arial or Veranda, designers look in history for inspiration or make a new typography of their own, cause they know what emotion can evoke a beautiful calligraphy.

Is it a trend?
What's your favorite?
Could you share some resources.

As far as I know typography has been with us for a long time. And is making a comeback since 2016. Some articles consider them a trend since ast year and is still creating mew once today. By favorite typography is the watercolor typography because this type is more inclined in artworks done by artists' hands.

I don't think typography is a trend itself, inasmuch as it is an umbrella term for different graphic aesthetics that are all subject to routine popularity changes. I remember Helvetica being the next big thing back in 2013. Something about simple fonts in exaggerated sizes, uncomplicated lines, and an in-your-face adherence to minimalism, I suppose. People lost interest when it became connected to "inauthentic" companies like American Apparel, but I still personally enjoy writing with it. I like fonts that let the actual content stand on its own merit.

Thank you for asking this question!

I don't think that typography is a trend. It sets the basis of the new calligraphic nowadays. It evolves as years goes by the reason for it to become a trend I thing because of the way we see it because of its simplicity and artistic strokes.

Trends come and trends go. And yes it was a hype to see more design which wanted to be more engaging to their audience and reflect personality. Which means intead of making the 1 millions website with Arial, Helvetica and San Serif people invested into their own style. Branding got more important over the last years and this means also designing your own company font for unique authentication.

In my opinion, typography is very popular right now. A lot of designs for commercial products such as cards and posters feature the typographic style, as well as advertising such as signage in a store and aesthetic social media advertisements. My favorite kind of typography is the clean lines and words that interlock smoothly, like a jigsaw puzzle. Some of my favorite resources for typography include a free online website called Typography Editor. I love using it because it is free for commercial use and it has all sorts of design elements such as banners, backgrounds, clipart, and boarders. You can even upload your own images. Hope this helps!

Interesting question, and one that I often here in my classes.

Is clean, readable, attention grabbing text a trend. Probably not!

One thing to keep in mind as you think about this, is that typography for the web changes as the resolution and types of our display devices change. Many areas of the typographic web display have changed over the years based on the types of devices that we use to view the web. With the changes in the display fonts have come some very interesting studies on how people react to different sizes and styles of text. This includes studies on how screen readers can interpret text in our markup, an area that most people don't even think about, but becoming more and more important as fonts are developed that go outside the normal ASCII character set and accessibility becomes an important aspect of SEO (Search Engine Optimization).

Character sets and how they are displayed on our screens will change as the technology changes. There was a time when we all used these crazy looking fonts and character sets to grab attention to our pages. Anyone that has been around awhile can remember those days, they were not really that long ago. But today, we see much cleaner type sets for those pages. Type with additional spacing, clean character sets, character offsets, etc. All used to make it easier for our users to read through the content. Not to grab attention, but to keep the user engaged in our content and wanting to complete the articles with as little eye strain as possible.

So is it a trend, I don't know if I would call it that, but it is a methodology that will be in a constant flux as view-ports, resolutions and and tastes of our users change with the developing technologies. It is an important aspect of design and one that has many books written on how it should be implemented on different types of web applications. Well worth understanding if you are serious about web development and design.

Colors and Typography two of our most important aspects of web design, properly deployed they grab and keep your users interested in your content.

I hope this answers your question.

Just an opinion......

I believe typography is already a trend in product marketing as well as in webdesign due to the fact that it gives an aesthetic value to the website and to the product being advertise. By the means of using a specific font, one can evoke attitude and personality to his/her design. Typography also emerge from the traditional cursive style to a minimalist manner. Furthermore, designers should use typography tactically in order to accentuate his/her webdesign because although it gives gorgeous outlook to a design, it can also change the way the audience perceive the artist's output.

For me, yes it is a trend FOR NOW. Because we never know what else can outdo it. And yes, calligraphy is really catchy these days. No matter how short or simple the message is, people will give it their attention when at one look the appearance of the lettering is really aesthetic and classical. My favorite font is anything that's curvy and at the same time classical. Today, simplicity is a trend.

I used to think so little of typography when i designed , i have another friend who happens to be great with typography and sometimes i would ask her to help me with the typography on my design. Let me tell you they looked a million times better ( the entire design ) whether it was a website or a logo typography plays a huge part in the overall design.

As to your question , is it a trend ? i would say its become more of a "independent" art form with a massive synergistic effect on other art. People have realised its power and some sort of want to specialise in it.

Will it stick around as a " trend" who Knows. As mike pointed out the web is forever changing, searches are now becoming voice orientated , websites and online media with the advent of better mobile technology make more use of audio and video. I think this trend will continue and pretty soon we are going to have online media that we can speak to and that may even speak back to us. Just go look at what google latest range in products are ( specifically the home speakers )and you will see there is a big push from their side for this.

I still use arial and helvetica , roboto is also a great one for me and lastly estrangelo eddesa
