Many website designers are often have a common question: what colors I use for my design? To make this choice easier, we have put a number of tips step by step.

Once you start on a new design for a website, and should choose what colors you used for this, there are a number of points you can watch.

1. Determine the appearance of the website should have

Remember the look and feel you want to achieve. As the website should be modern and business is the combination of blue with gray always nice and safe. Perhaps this combination boring, but not everyone finds a problem.

For example, dark colors can make a website attractive, black in combination with silver or gold tones. If you do it right, complete with interior photos and ornate fonts, the whole picture can be very stylish.

With dark red and orange tones you can give a warm look to your website. A natural look is accomplished by combining green hues with earth colors. And if you just want a fresh look for lime green and / or blue.

2. Deviate from the standard colors

By deviating from the standard colors let you see that attention is paid to the design. Text is black by default, but by using these dark it looks very different.

Pure blue (# 0000FF) is a strong color, but because this color is used, it is also a little boring. Just to choose a lighter, more towards turquoise, blue tint you achieve that fresh, modern effect. This also goes for green. As dark green is just too boring for a lighter shade with a little more yellow.

There are more than 16 million colors, so why would you limit yourself a number of standard colors?

3. Adjust the colors in the house style?

If an organization already has a logo or corporate identity, it is obviously important that the design of the website fits here. By colors to choose in the existing logo, or good fit, you create a whole. This makes the website calmer and more professional.

4. Provide sufficient contrast

It is very important that the texts remain legible. Therefore ensure sufficient contrast. If the background is dark, the text make it as light as possible. Also remember that colors may differ from each other, and can have the same tonal value at the same time For example, red text on a blue background will hardly legible as the colors are about as dark or light. To check this you can design even convert to grayscale. Everything is still legible and visible?

5. Dull colors? Work with gradients!

You're bound because of the style or the wishes of a customer of colors that you find boring? Then make use gradients (of adapters) to the whole spice. If you let gradients from light to dark gray you get a shiny effect which looks more like silver. This can be applied for large boxes (background) for small boxes (navigation buttons).

6. Stand out with bright colors or strong color combinations

Some website must especially radiate peace and reliability. But sometimes you want that the website stand out! If the design really have to jump, you can choose a bright color. Example, bright green, yellow or orange. But love the design or space and calm (not too much content so close to each other). If you're really daring, you can choose to bright pink or acid violet.

Black (or dark gray) in combination with a bright color, such as yellow, orange or lime green forms a very strong combination. This has the effect that the website gets a recognizable image. You have to have guts to choose. It is not suitable for every industry.

7. Look with red!

The default color is red (# FF0000), really bright color that stands out. But it is also an aggressive color. The color of errors. In combination with black, dark blue, gray or yellow standard color red radiate negativity. An ideal color when you want to stand out, but only if you do not mind that it looks a bit cheap.

Eventually want to use red, but maintain a friendly feel, for a dark red color. Choose

8. Do not use too many different colors

Unless you want the visitors visitors, headache, you better not use too many different colors. In particular, the combination of bright primary colors may have a negative effect quickly. It usually looks childish and unprofessional. It is possible to combine multiple shades with pastel colors

9. What is the competition doing?

Check out the websites of your major competitors. What colors? Probably you want to vary. Best to use completely different colors for the design of your website.

10. Make a number of color variants and ask others for their opinions

With graphic design softwares like Adobe Photoshop, it's easy to make a number of color variants of a design (eg with a Hue Adjustment Layer). Might change your mind as you compare the versions with each other. Ask others for their opinion, and ask what feeling they get at the colors. Use this information in your final choice.

Hope you will choose best colors for your site :victory:
