Authority website vs. Niche blog site?

Hi everyone,
I got confused and I didn't which was right or false because many people said me that authority website is better for online business while others say that niche site is better for easy ranking.

what do you think about that, which is more better?

I believe authority backlinks are better and here's why. They have so much link power that having only a few backlinks from these types of domains can literally sky rocket you to google page one. I remember a few years back i had a nice authority website ranking on google page one for hundreds of keywords. Anytime i wanted to make a new site i would just add a few links back to my blog and in just a little time i would be ranked on google page one on my new website. It was very very powerful back in the good ole days
