I would say helping others, like spending time in forums or going to facebook groups and join discussions. There's also great linkedin and skype groups as well or google+ communities. I also comment on other website's latest blog posts and youtube videos.

Doing some research for the next topic I'll be blogging or creating a video tutorial about. Finding other marketers who might be interested in doing a cross promotion (whereby I email for them and they email for me). But when I do cross promotion, I go to someone who doesn't advertise that they do cross promotion then I convince them to do it with me.

Cross promotion doesn't have to be limited to email, it could be a blog post or even a social media mention.

Sometimes I just search for people who have popular blogs, social profile, youtube channel, forum profile etc. but are not into marketing. Someone who's just doing it because they love the topic then I convince them to join my affiliate program and promote my stuff for a commission. Or simply give them a fixed price to promote my stuff.

Search for expired domains to build a PBN.

That's how I spend my time productively online, at least what I can think of right now but there's a whole lot of stuff I do online to spend my time more productively.

Good thread :)

Sometimes what works for me is to not surf the web at all and just get on with my work lol... It can be a means to procrastinate and before you know it you've lost hours of time! If you're going to spend time online then ask yourself "is this contributing to my success or am I just wasting time? ...." ... You get the idea... In the same way also find time to relax and with that chill out and surf the web - but try not to mix the two ;-)

I like researching on the web. I am always looking for new Blogging or SEO techniques that I can study up and then blog about myself. Also, I am a big fan of finding questions to answer around my topic as well. To be honest, I don't goof off much. For me, even being on Facebook is a form of work.

My goof off time is tv.

What works for me when trying to get things done is to close my facebook, twitter and email so I can focus on the task at hand.

I also create a "to do list" before I go to bed so I already know what I will do the next day. You may not be able to follow that list but at least you got something done compared to wandering around the facebook while thinking of something to do.

I second this, very easy to lead your self astray, these are excellent! I do the same thing.

I also make sure that I focus on these two task day in and day out, they are at the top of my list of things to always do.

1. Traffic, and using that traffic to build my email list as large and as fast I can.
Everyday I do some traffic building activity to increase my number of subscribers to my email list, both through free and paid traffic.

2. I Send at least 1 broadcast email message to my personal email list everyday.
In my retail stores I once owned my best customers were the ones I got to know the most..

I like to learn, so many times I will be online looking for ways to help this. I join many forums to help me learn how to make money online, and spend some time on social media sites as well. I love to do research for articles that I write, and this has helped me gain a lot of good knowledge.

I'd say joining forums, because that way you can interact with people with the same interests and help them in stuff that they don't know about. Social media is good, if you're scoping out the current events instead of liking someone's status on facebook. In a workplace, it's never good to use the internet, unless with permission lol

To me the most productive ways to spend online are helping others on forums, managing websites, blogs, or forums, YouTube playing in the background, and using skype to talk to friends, business partners, and other forum members.

I am on a few different forums and pop into them frequently throughout the day, as well as managing my own forum with my fiancée, and have Skype open to talk to our forum members/mods and our business partner for another site we are working on.

I love Nytshde's response.

That is exactly me. When I'm not posting on forums, I watch Youtube videos, or spend time watching shows online, or play games. Oh right, you said productive. XD Productive wise, definitely posting and helping out on forums. Other than that, making and recording Youtube videos.

Pick one. On a more serious note, learning new things 'n stuff is productive, as well as helping others. I'm currently learning JS and PHP via Code Academy.

I spend a lot of time looking up code online, it is a majority of what I do at work. If you don't know the solution to a problem I just Google it and I can very often find an answer. I also keep looking at other things that could help me in teh future, it saves time and it helps me when I am helping other people.

I spend my time in learning some thing new on the internet. I think every day we have to learn some thing new in the filed we are in, no matter if we spend only 30 minutes (the more the better) but if it is on daily basis, it will make a big difference in our knowledge after few months.

Fun, just fun! Play games, make animations through websites, put your own faces into game characters and cool animations! These are all I like to have fun with! But I do research for some SEO tips and work on my website instead of having fun.

Well I do balance my time on using the internet, an hour or two I will participate in some forum discussion I guess that's the best way to learn and at the same time share your knowledge about certain thing. Next will be check out the trendiest topic nowadays. Talk to my friends through social media, or create an update in a fan page that I am promoting. And then I tend to search the net about my work in order for me to have the idea about certain matter. Lastly read some random blog content so that I won't be bored.

My most productive activities on internet:

- Reading news (5 - 30 minutes)
- Reading and posting on forums (2 hours)
- Reading business blogs (30 minutes)
- Browsing websites related to online marketing (1 hour)

My most unproductive activity on internet: open my personal Facebook account, see a lot of friends trying to impress others by showing their cute selfies, great places they travel, delicious food they are going to eat, and some others posting self-promotion status :D

Build up your own blog. A blog that interests you even though it's not as relevant to others. I'm working on mine and it's a travel site. I know a lot of people have come up with the same niche, but it doesn't really bug me. Not at all.
