Hey there,
What factors, besides a reasonable commission, make you sign up as an affiliate?
Is it just the commission, or do other things matter as well?
Do you need additional things, such as URL generation (link to any page), second tier commission, recurring commission..etc?

The most important thing for me is the product itself, I buy the product and if I'm happy with it then I'll promote it. Another thing I check is what else will the person who buys the product need after purchasing the product.

That will help me come up with compelling bonuses which will increase conversions. But most of the time I want a product that is complete.

For instance, the product I'm promoting at the moment teaches list building. The buyer gets training, free autoresponder, free software for building squeeze pages, a free high quality giveaway/freebie product and everyone who bought the product gets 100% commissions when they promote the product they purchased. While other affiliates get 50% commissions.

The training has some great traffic generation tips. As you can see, the product is complete and the buyer will have all the tools they need to make money with email marketing.

These days, everyone is selling information and that's no longer enough. People also need the tools so that's what I mean by promoting a complete product. I promote a vendor who brings something fresh to the marketplace, not just information.

There's a lot of rehashed stuff online, I look for innovators, people with fresh ideas. So what makes me sign up as an affiliate is fresh ideas.

I test ever program I sign up with, making sure everything works as promised, if the offer is good and it fits into what I am doing, only then do I promote it. But back to your question, why do I sign up..? The offer has to be really appealing, and entice me to sign up to find out more..I know then that the offer will get me conversions, because I have been doing this for many years, if it entices me, it must be good!

Yes I agree with Richard. It is very important that I test out the product before I promote it. There are too many hyped up products now promising "Make Gazillion $$ in 1 day" which I avoid. Because I know that it is not possible. The internet marketing business is actually like any other traditional business, you need goodwill to build a large income.

I will try out the product on my own and see if the content is really good. But if it is something that is really watered down then I will avoid it.

A big plus is if the product has step by step VIDEOS.

If I think the product could do well, I'd sign up as an affiliate. It doesn't necessarily have to do anything with my own personal tastes because I know that my tastes are different than others. A clean sales page and an excellent product are what I would look for.

Not only commission, but also the product you are promoting must have high demand. To get high demand that product should solve people's problem. A product that solves other people's problem will receive high demand.

First is a quality product that solves a problem that a lot of people have and want a solution to. Next I look for a sales funnel that converts, the promotional tools and training the product creator has to help you market and last is a product or service that not only pays commissions on sales but also pays residual income through a monthly subscription to the product.
