How to promote a forum when you have no money?

what will you do if you owned a forum and you want to promote it but you have no money, I think this is difficult problem for all to solve so anyone here can share ideas or tips how to promote a forum when you have no money?

Well, you need to run some advertisement to get popularity for your forum and that requires money but if you don't have then you need to worry. There are other free ways to promote your forum tough it will definitely require man power.

You can promote your forum on other forum like WMS, participate in the community questions and make a signature, put a link back to your forum.
Another way is social media, you can join various groups on facebook, start promoting your forum there but do not spread spam, otherwise you will be banned from there.

In this case, your best option is search engine marketing and promoting your forum on other forums, blogs, social sites, etc. It will help make your forum visible on the web to a certain limit.

Agree with this idea, No money need more your efforts on time and works to promote on blogs or forums. If you have a little money try banner ad, email marketing...are effective way to promote your forum without spending more time.

1. SEO (for long term goals)
2. Add social media buttons (addthis, sharethis, etc)
3. Add an affiliate script or contest where users get rewarded for bringing in new members to your forum (offer free ebooks, scripts, etc)

There are also forum points scripts to reward members which can also used with monthly contests to bring in the most members.
