I pretty much exclusively use Notepad++ for web development. Sublime is pretty cool, too. For Python, I use PyCharm and for C++ I use Visual Studio. I tried using others for C++. Hate to say it but Microsoft's product is just far better. I wish they still maintained Dev++ :(

Notpad +++ is good enough for me if I have to do some HTML/CSS editing but I don't do much of front-end work. I am a Python developer and for Python development I use the Jupyter Notebook (used to be called iPython Notebook) which I highly recommend if anyone is interested in working with Python .

I am making use of Atom exclusively, while running Fedora as my OS.

Brackets is good but often gets frozen when you are using Linux as your OS, otherwise would be also a good alternative.

I like Sublime Text 3. I was using Sublime Text 2 for years but the changes in 3 are really worth the upgrade.

There are many editors out there and a lot of it depends on your platform but Sublime Text for me is the best overall. Plus they have great support.

I use it almost exclusively in my web design classes that I record for the web and have been almost since its inception. I will occasionally use Aptana Studio, Atom, Brackets, Bluefish and Dreamweaver CS but always end up returning to Sublime Text.

Hope this helps.

I use Sublime Text and I'm pretty satisfied with its usage.
During my early phase of learning web development, I used Notepad++ for some time.

First of all, it depends on the programming language you are going to code, for example any .Net project, Visual studio is the best option

In generic, I love Sublime text, nothing can beat it.

Atom.io
brackets
Notepad++ are decent options
Visual Studio code is a light weight editor with new packages for AngularJS etc. Its worth a try

Eclipse is my choice. I use eclipse to develop my android app, J2EE application, PHP also.

Eclipse is the best for java application (for android, Android Studio is replacing eclipse, but eclipse still works).

I also feel comfortable with eclipse-PHP SDK that I can code develop my PHP webapp and debug too.
