With free web hosting you will not receive the same quality of service, guarantees, etc. I always and only recommend free web hosting for learning proposes, but if your serious about your website/websites, you will need to find a reliable provider with quality customer support, good uptime, etc.

It is preferred for your domain name to be relevant and representative of your website content, but not always necessary as you can always go after brandable domain names which are short, easy to type and remember.

There are many domain name forums and marketplaces where you can buy, sell and trade domain names such as this forum, Namepros, Flippa, etc.

You can purchase a domain name from a domain registrar, I personally recommend Name.com and NameCheap.

I don't see these new extensions becoming popular anytime soon.
