YES! Exactly this!!! The only ones still complaining about needing more backlinks or stupid crap like DA are newbies who don't know any better. Good CONTENT gets rewarded by not only search engines, but your actual customers, who ultimately are the reason for doing this in the first place...

Write a good article on whatever the topic is and share it on social media. You don't need a lot of backlinks. Just enough to gain some traction.

Sounds like the early days of traffic exchanges or hit lists where your ad placement determined your ranking. I think the problem would be webmasters scared of being placed (or perceived as placed) on a link farm and hurting their overall strategy, regardless of how it may be coded. If done...
