If you're only willing to spend a buck a month, then there's no reason to get paid hosting at all, as no one charging $1/mth ($12 per year) is going to be in business very long. Just use free hosting for now until you're ready to get serious online and then pay to get real, reliable hosting.

I think it will clutter the SERP with even more sites trying to rank for their keywords, as well as websites with extensions no one will remember, which will be good for the .com's of those site names, as most people by default just type in websitename.com, so those sites will get their traffic :)

Yahoo & Bing use the same algorithm since they teamed up awhile ago, but the one Google uses is different. It is MUCH easier to 'game' Yahoo/Bing than Google.
