Your best option would be guest posting on a similar ranked website where they get free content that helps them while you get a relevant link. Hopefully someone here can help you. If I still had my anime site I'd give you a link, but I sold that site about 10 years ago. Good luck!

Being lumped in with a bunch of spammy posts on a link farm would be the most obvious issue. Some blog owners selling guest posts don't care about the content quality and your own SEO efforts will suffer because of it. Be very careful where you guest post!

Since there are no pages anymore (it's all a scroll down of 50+ entries until the "more results" tab), do you consider "success" to be within those first 50 results? 10? Above the "more results" tab?

I agree that some readers will still read the full article, as I do myself sometimes, but for people who just need a quick answer they won't need to. When I was looking for a list of the top 10 foods my dog should avoid today I didn't need to visit a single site, as Google gave me the answer...
