I agree with you, at least we could use Google+ as a ping tool for my website urls. In the other hands, It also helps increasing a little traffic if our Google+ followers click on them. I consider Google+ in my top 5 favorite social networks to get traffic from.

So, as you said then Google adwords is more expensive than SEO. Of course is it depends on type of business that you are investing into but SEO will work for all business unless you want to get fast results like Adwords.
