You are right, forum marketing is still effective today and you can get traffic or backlinks when you promote your services or get backlinks from posts or signatures on forums. Make sure that you only do that on quality forums and I am sure you will get good results from forum marketing :)

10 years ago, I only used free SEO but recent years, I used both paid and free SEO because I didn't have more free time for free SEO. Beside, free (Unpaid) SEO just gave me normal backlinks while paid SEO gave me quality backlinks without spending more time and efforts for them.
