Is SEO Blogging Dead or Just Evolved for Affiliate Marketers?

Is blogging still a realistic way to earn through affiliate marketing in 2026 or has it become more of a long game authority only space now?
I’m seeing very mixed signals, some people still building income sites that work, while others say new blogs barely get traction even with decent content and SEO effort

i would genuinely like to hear your experience, what’s actually working for you in today’s landscape?

I think too many people see blogging as a way to make money online, rather than a tool to make money online, as it should be. Blogs should never be your money maker, but a tool to showcase your content, along with social media profiles and articles posted on other sites.

As such, if it ranks well, great, but you shouldn't expect it to, as Google has changed so much in the past couple years that blogs often get buried in the results now. A more effective strategy is to actually be helpful in relevant social groups within your niche with a well placed link to your blog article that solves a problem within that targeted market and then have a highly targeted affiliate ad within that article. Kinda like a funnel...

Makes sense, especially the idea of using the blog as a tool instead of relying on it alone.
I would just add that even the, share in groups, funnel to blog approach only really works if you’re already active and trusted there. Otherwise the reach is pretty limited now.

A few years ago you could publish 50 articles, do some basic SEO, and wait for traffic. Now it feels like distribution is almost as important as the content itself. From what I’ve seen, smaller affiliate sites can still work, but they need a stronger angle than just writing keyword articles. Having actual experience with the product, building an audience somewhere, or creating content that answers very specific problems seems to make a much bigger difference now. Overall I think, that traffic sources and trust you build around it are what make the affiliate side work.

SEO blogging isn’t dead, but the easy informational layer has been squeezed by AI Overviews and zero-click results. The sites that still work usually combine first-hand experience, original data, tools or comparisons with strong topical authority and their own distribution channels. For affiliates, the blog is increasingly the trust and conversion layer, not the entire traffic source

When you sound like a salesman, people treat you like a salesman, but if you sound like a user who used that product or service, then the people really dive in, so yeah, be genuine.

Produce high quality content that helps the reader. It used to be keyword stuffing but that's no longer the case
