Viral marketing is any marketing technique that induces Web sites or users to pass on a marketing message to other sites or users, creating a potentially exponential growth in the message's visibility and effect.

viral marketing is so called because it tends to spread in an exponential :
from 1 to 10, from 10 to 100 , and so on ...
There are multiple ways and only the imagination is the limit.
but all the base and offer an incentive for the user to spread it .
This incentive may be economic in nature :
-
For example, a report of your own product for sale with the affiliate link of the user who downloaded
it will be an incentive to turn to give it away to spin your link
while you do turn your report -

or else it can be viral for fun , curiosity , etc.
For example, a funny video :

create a funny video and enter it in your link ( in the video)
if it is it will follow very welcome from user to user , and so also your link , site I produced .

or else a video game with your free advertising
but it can also be
a plugin,
*software
etc. .

a method much in vogue and that said forced matrix
that is, to participate you must first interact with it
for example :
watch the site for users to number of seconds (eg 5 sites) after you enter your site among the 5 people who want to get even will see your
if those who sign up other affiliates they will also find your , and so on ....
one of them is free viral but there are many just do a search

It is kind of like when you have a POPULAR content...that certain NICHE (group of people) would be interested in.

For example...

If your site is about weight loss:

You can write a content - The BEST "Behind" Workout

Share it on social networks and see it go viral!

Find multiple VIRAL sites. See what they are sharing, (pay very close attention to headlines) - this will give you ideas on what type of content goes viral.

Some of those sites are:

buzzfeed, Viralnova, buzzsumo (great resource)

Hope this helps!

The best way I can describe viral marketing is this...

Have you seen all the cat memes that everyone shares?

Figure out how to advertise doing the same thing.

That is viral marketing. :)

According to Wikipedia below:

Viral marketing, viral advertising, or marketing buzz are buzzwords referring to marketing techniques that use pre-existing social networking services and other technologies to try to produce increases in brand awareness or to achieve other marketing objectives (such as product sales) through self-replicating viral processes, analogous to the spread of viruses or computer viruses (cf. Internet memes and memetics). It can be delivered by word of mouth or enhanced by the network effects of the Internet and mobile networks.[1]

Viral advertising is personal and, while coming from an identified sponsor, it does not mean businesses pay for its distribution.[2] Most of the well-known viral ads circulating online are ads paid by a sponsor company, launched either on their own platform (company webpage or social media profile) or on social media websites such as YouTube.[3] Consumers receive the page link from a social media network or copy the entire ad from a website and pass it along through e-mail or posting it on a blog, webpage or social media profile.

Viral marketing may take the form of video clips, interactive Flash games, advergames, ebooks, brandable software, images, text messages, email messages, or web pages. The most commonly utilized transmission vehicles for viral messages include: pass-along based, incentive based, trendy based, and undercover based. However, the creative nature of viral marketing enables an "endless amount of potential forms and vehicles the messages can utilize for transmission", including mobile devices.[4]

Viral marketing is different from SEO marketing. Viral marketing is very similar to word of mouth marketing- you use the power of your audience feedback and recommendation about your brand in marketing. That is how you use viral marketing for your service/product.

The whole point of viral marketing is to post creative, funny or unique content in the form of an image, video or article that people will be compelled to share within their social network. Their friends in turn share to other friends, and then the page can be considered "viral".

Viral marketing is a great technique in which the webmaster creates great and attractive content in any forms of image, infographic, videos, posts, status so that people (the readers or users) get easily attracted and share to their social networks or blogs or sites. After that, their friends or folks continue to see the shared item funny or good and re-share it. That is the reason why the hot and best videos on Youtube get viral marketing to the top!
