Expired domain traffic?

Has anyone had any success with traffic from expired domain? The only problem I see with it is that the traffic isn't targeted, but perhaps with direct traffic can be a bit helpful. If anyone knows tools or sources to have expired domain traffic, please let me know, I'm interested to give it a try, also, to hear any success/fail stories would be good too.
