How Do You Deal With Banner Blindness?

In recent months, I have been getting into making simple banners and placing them on various sites. I have been getting a great response to them, however to avoid future problems, what can I do with my banners to avoid my clients (or potential ones) getting banner blindness? I want to keep my clientele enticed enough to keep clicking through, so any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!
