Hi there,

I'm going to build a new website about technology but I'm considering between Q&A Platform, Blog cms (wordpress) and Forum Cms, I don't know which is more advantages and which is easy to get more traffic, also easy to get rankings, SEO?

Can you tell me which I should go with? and why?

Many thanks :rolleyes2:

Hello!

To get the best experience with, I don't recommend you to use a Blog CMS because you must have to develop some functions (forms) like "Ask a question", a specifical theme (for a questions site), and a good commenting system. So, one down vote for Blog CMS.

A forum "CMS" has many features. You can see these fetures here, on this forum. A forum CMS is a big application so it consumes many resources (it depends of who builds it and how it is built - there could exist forum applications whch uses a bit of resources, but the majority does not). For example, if you will start with a shared hosting, after some time, it will go down and you will believe that you have too many visitors. NO. You haven't many visitors. The shared goes down because of your forum application which makes too many db queries or which uses much memory and/or cpu (it depends on where are you hosted on too - a hosting provider could allocate more resources than other). Another down vote for Forum "CMS".

A Q&A platform is usually lightweight (it depends of who builds it and how it is built). It hasn't as many features a forum, but it usually has only tags, logins system, register system, order by tag, order by newest, add question and simple answer question as features (not as many as a forum "CMS"). But it could be developed as well as a Forum. An up vote for Q&A sites.

I couldn't select for you what to use... it depends on your requirements, and what to do with the website...

If you have any further question don't hesitate to tell me.

Thanks for suggestions, I am thinking about building a Q&A website but too many platforms out there.
having more questions for me like I should use Q&A theme or Q&A plugin (for this, I can use both blog and Q&A platform)..etc
Using Q&A may be easy for me about time and efforts on developing it, right?

If you want to have a blog in addition of a Q&A (or whatever - e-commerce, forum, faq system etc) site, then use a plugin for WordPress or a component for Joomla! (depends on CMS). Anyone will tell you this.

I will tell you why you shouldn't make this mistake.

I think over 70% of websites which are moving from a shared to a VPS don't really need a VPS. The majority of CMSs aren't optimised. CMSs have lots of features, which means hard coding but are not optimal made. A simple homepage (of a simple theme) uses more than 30 db queries for page generation... the simple homepage generation should use 2-4 db queries if the application uses optimal programming (sure, there are several themes which are bad programmed)...
That's why I don't recommend to use a plugin to make your blog and Q&A within the same application, because even if the CMS page generation makes lots of queries, then Q&A plugin will use make other queries (there will be a sum of normal CMS queries and Q&A queries)...

Supposing you will stay on a shared hosting, you could use two separated applications: one super simple application which use a bit of resources for your blog and another application dedicated for Q&A site.

As you said, there are many Q&A platforms (applications?). It depends on you which is right for you. There are many free applications and many paid applications. It depends on your requirements.

If you have any further question don't hesitate to tell me.

Hello again!

If you are not hurry up, you could wait for our NETCreator CMS launch. Our developers are working for about one year to develop a very very very strong optimized CMS with the entire functionality of WordPress, Joomla! etc. It will costs about $20/per life - multilicense (or free if buy one of NETCreator hosting plan).

You'll be shocked! Our CMS will use only 2-3 db queries per page generation (or zero if cache activated).

I think it will be very good for your additional blog.

We will be glad to launch it!
