Freelancer red flags

I know that there are several legitimate Freelance websites out there, and I am even on a few, what I wonder is: While hunting for work on freelancer websites, are there certain red flags that you look for? You know maybe something like 'too good to be true' stuff?
Or maybe certain countries you avoid for various reasons? I assume that the reputable sites screen the people that are looking to hire freelancers, and most are legitimate I'm sure, but there's always bad ones in the bunch. What are good things to look out for to newer freelancers like myself?

Any advice or tips you can come up with would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I would only suggest to go with clients who have a review and past history of good coordination with freelancers. Numerous new clients sign up daily with huge loads of work and there is nothing to verify their originality. I have faced a couple of consequences in one of the freelancer websites where I was hired for a one time job and the client just vanished. I think we need to be very cautious about client reviews before we take up the job. The frauds can be anywhere not depending on the geographic location.

Agreed. I've noticed that myself, one minute there, next minute gone and so is the money. That from a recent experience. I certainly will remember your tip, especially being still new at it. While I'm looking I keep an eye out for non-verified information and reviews, and such. Thank you!
