Can I purchase expired domains that have high page rank and domain authority?
I am planning to build blogs with them but I am doubting it can affect to SEO rankings.

Sure you can, you just want to make sure they aren't what I call "Dirty Domains". By that I mean that they weren't used for porn, spamming, malicious activity and so on.

I like to check and see if there are indexed pages in Google and the other SE's, check archive.org and screenshots.com to hopefully see what was on them before.

Do as much research as easily possible before purchasing them.

I purchase expired domains often with some DA, Backlinks, etc. and it can help them rank earlier.

You just have to be careful not to get one that has a bad past, which can affect it's immediate future.

You can, but I would not buy anything based on PR or DA.

The PR Toolbar data (what we can see) has not been updated in 2 years. You have no ideal what the PR is of any webpage on the internet right now.

DA is a number made up by Moz based on their subpar link database. It's not that reliable. You can waste a lot of money if you are making purchasing decisions based on that.

Very good point SEO!

I was going to say that myself and was thinking that when I replied, but forgot.

Lot's of people will buy a domain based on those. Myself, if I was looking at 2 domains there are other things I look at first and would never buy one based on these things. I have always looked at it like perhaps a small deciding factor if I was torn between two identical in everything else ways. Buying based on them alone is not the way to look at it.

I would not buy old domains. sure it easier to start but like others have said, you never know the domains back story. Just start a new domain, it will be worth the work.

If the domain name is catchy and has traffic related to your content then go for it, but if your doing it just because of PR/DA then its not worth it.

Not a bad idea! but do not take only on the basis PR & DA, as there are some other factors are also concerns like type of existing backlinks, are there any other domains redirecting to this domain, existing social media presence, etc.

Hope it will help you.

Thanks,
Wrig Mark

Not only could the domain have a shady past, but as Wrig mentioned, could be flagged, such as real spammy backlinks. G really cracked down on backlinks not long ago. Could get a domain that will never rank or help rank anything else. I've killed domains with backlinks, it can happen.

I think the best way to answer your question is this... In the last month I have analyzed over 12 million expiring domains.... I only found 9 worth bidding on that is about 0.00000075%

So you have to VERY VERY VERY VERY careful because 99.99999925% of them will screw you or not give you any advantage.

Good luck and you better not bid on the same domains as me.......... :)

It will be a way better if you'll buy a new one, since we don't actually know what happen to that domain and why did the owner of it choose to don't use it anymore. It will really take time to create a new one, but it will be way more easier for you to use it since you're the one who purchase it. You can also design it the way you want it to be, and to put the content that you will find relevant.

Yes, you surely can. If you can find an expired domain which is related to your niche then you should go with it.

It's not a bad idea to purchase expired domains. However, you must check and verify backlinks profiles of the domain you want to buy as if it's good enough with many strong and authority backlinks, then you should grab it.

Just find sites online that curate expired domains and export to Excel and use excel functions to identify the right ones (high DA, PA, Etc)

Of course i did, I exported them in excel and I have certain criteria I look for in bidding on domains. So using a mix of excel filtering tools and manual labor i went through all 12 million on the list and picked out about 9 I liked.

I obviously didnt go in full detail for each one if it didnt meet my basic requirements....

This way is really creative and I have not ever thought to it before. As I know some sites could provide tools to order by names/pagerank/DA/PA or other indexes.

Thanks for the explanation, UVM. That's one heck of an Excel file. Would you share its final size?
