First, you want to claim the website as your own in Google Search Console. After that you want to submit your websites' sitemap so that Google has a map of all the pages on your site to crawl. Additionally, you can add the URL of your sitemap to your robots.txt file which will tell web crawls exactly where your sitemap is when they visit your site.
If your site is a competitive niche, it may end up being indexed but not show that it is under the Coverage tab because your rankings are too low.
You'll have to build backlinks to increase your rankings, and then pages which are already "indexed" will begin to show.
