I signed up an account on Stumbleupon, is there a way to get backlinks from this site? does any one try and it is effective for SEO?

Just like all backlinks, it depends on the page the link appears on. Most Reddit links are going to be pretty worthless.

The links from SU won't be any use or have any impact on your page rank. You're much better off guest posting on popular, authoritative sites in your niche.
