What is two-factor authentication and how does it work?

Can anyone explain me what is two-factor authentication and how does it work? I logged my web hosting and some asked me 2 times with 2 different steps to login successfully and on some apps from Google is same. I feel a bit more difficult and should i should use or switch to normal login?

2-factor authentication is an enhanced level of authentication, which is to use some codes, app permission, confirmation link, etc for getting into the dashboard. This method is always monitoring the login attempt and report immediately to your mail Id if someone tried the trespassing. It is sometimes annoying to wait for the code or mail. Nowadays it is mandatory because hackers are watching every move. If you are inside your website and the login IP address can white list and block other IP login attempts using security plugins. So that you can remove the 2factor in this case.
