Social media sites are places to meet people and network. It is critical to understand the rules or you'll get flagged, banned, and thrown out. Social websites are a community and it is important to participate in the community. Do not pitch your products, especially one-on-one. You can market by sharing knowledge and present it in a way to provide added value that everyone in the community will find interesting. You should be up front, transparent and honest, too. Don't lie, don't be sneaky because it will be discovered fast. Tell people what you are about and what you are up to. Remember, you are hanging out with friends, sharing ideas, sharing concepts, adding value to everyone in the community. Please help me in finding out demerits of marketing or promotion on social networking sites

When using social media in a business context the main focus should be on giving value to your audience. Situate yourself as a though leader in your niche and people will naturally gravitate toward doing business with you.

The easy and wrong way to do social media is to bombard your audience with your products and services as they'll soon realize you on have your own interests in mind and they won't see the value in it for them to stay connected.

Off course Social media sites are places to meet people & Build a great Network. Social media is awesome platform to meet peoples as well Build relationship in Business. I do not think their is Demerits for marketing on social media sites But yes something it falls wrong & something happen wrong.
