Blogspot for SEO and link building?

Hello to everyone
I'm wondering if there is any benefit if I open a blogspot for the purpose of putting content on it and then put links coming to my site. Does this help me in terms of seo and link building?

Only if the blogspot is active and people are sharing it online, but if it's getting no traffic and shares then it won't be effective.

Yes indeed this helps... You're basically building out tier 1 sites... But you need to take a slow approach and not rush into adding your backlinks as G's algo will detect that and too much of it will lead to G's slap.... So be careful! Nytshade's advice above is a good one also - wrt using social and working on getting traffic....

Start of with adding useful content... Sprinkle in some dud links such as to authority sites, wiki on keywords that you are not targeting and after a few weeks add your backlink... The point here is that G's crawler will look at your outbound links on your tier 1 site and if all of them only goes to your money site - you're leaving an obvious footprint to G that you're gaming the serps lol....

Keep adding content to the tier 1 sites and as mentioned keep your footprints minimized... With off page SEO - "Slow and steady" wins the game!

Blog is more worth for SEO if you provide it unique content and building link in right ways. Even it can get high ranking for your articles on it. One disadvantage is you will have difficulty in customizing for template or SEO on page if you want to do SEO on blogspot. It's not easy as you do on our your own website hosted on a separated web hosting.

Adding backlinks to your site is always a good done when you do it slow and natural but the best way to increase website traffic is to write unique content daily to your blog. The more you write the more traffic you will get.

I couldn't agree more. I've got churn and burners ranked totally on content production and no link building. But we were pushing out 50-100 pieces of content a week. A lot of work!

Thank you guys for your honest replies unfortunately I asked this question when am already writing and posting the articles on my blogspot putting links to my website but if this act lead me in hot waters with search engines then i'm stopping it right away.
