I am using shared web hosting for my wordpress blogs but I want to add Xenforo forum software to them
Has Xenforo forum software required a special web hosting with more features to support it run smoothly?

No, it does not require any special web hosting.
What you need to remember when starting a forum, is that if you anticipate it to get really big really fast, then you're better off starting with a VPS. Most forums however take quite some time before growing to that size, and so it's wiser to start off on a shared hosting plan, and migrate when the need arises.

Like MightyWeb said, If/when the forum gets big enough, you will need to move to a VPS or dedicated server, but don't waste the money now. Stay with a shared host and put the extra money towards advertising/SEO to help build the traffic to your site.

We just moved our shared host from HawkHost (really great company) to [URLnf=http://XenBoost.com]http://XenBoost.com[/URLnf] - they focus primarily on XenForo.

They recently had a Cinco de Mayo sale with unmanaged VPS for $20 (+ $10 for cpanel). My site speed was a bit sluggish on the shared account, but now it's pretty much blazing fast. You MAY be able to still get the sale price if you mention "Drastic" - since you're coming from a referral, it may help you out. No promises on that of course.

My picture gallery pages would load kinda slow before, but now they appear instantly and I think it's worth the extra few bucks to give your users a fast experience.

Never heard of XenBoost, but I'd be wary about signing up for a host who doesn't present valid whois record (not just hidden, but not even valid ones), and for which I can't find any information whatsoever on their main website.

They're a small somewhat private network focused on primarily XenForo sites. They're kind of a niche service provider. They host a few reallllly big forums and they're branching out soon to offer hosting for other forums.

I'm just posting my experience, and since I've done sites for 10+ years, I wouldn't have gone with them either if I didn't have a solid sense of trust in them.

As you can see, they're remodeling their website. Their customer backend is complete and very nice though.

XenForo doesn't require any specific kind of WebHost, however what I would look for is not utilizing any of the big-name providers such as Godaddy or any EIG-Brand host specifically because they limit their accounts to 256mb or less of memory, which would result in your website throwing errors at members during peak hours due to the constraints.

Any service should be fine to my knowledge. Unles sit gets too busy for the server to cope haha. No special server needed until you need more space:)
