There are a lot of people that make a lot of money from affiliate marketing, but you have to do it right.

Use a quality product/service that people will be happy with if they use it.

Make sure the affiliate link takes them to a quality page, that is not a bunch of spam content, popups, etc

Use affiliate products that fit with the niche of your site. If you have a Tech blog, you probably wont have many affiliate sales for feminine hygiene products.

Have a good clean layout on your site! Websites that have spam/affiliate/paid ads all over the place are less likely to get sales because a) people will look right over the ads, b) many people will leave all together

Affiliate marketing is wonderful, in my opinion. You can promote products and earn commissions without having the hassles associated with creating the product or supporting the product. Now for the earning money part of your question you need to look for an affiliate program that offers the following:

1. Products that give more value for their selling price or fees charged.
2. Tested and Optimized sales / squeeze pages for affiliates' use.
3. A follow-up marketing system for the leads affiliates refer to the system.
4. A program where leads are linked to Affiliates so future sales are credited to Affiliates.

If you find an affiliate program that offers training for affiliates in addition to the 4 characteristics listed above, you will have a good chance of earning commissions that can range between $300 to $3,000 a month.
