Blog comment is very hard to have dofollow backlinks, some blogs disable blog comment on their platform while social networks, social bookmarking and RSS submission are giving you nofollow backlinks

To the list you can also add 7. Being consistent.
You have to remember that it's a hard job and it takes a lot of time to make it work. But it's possible so you shouldn't get discouraged.
