Which squeeze page setup is better?

Which squeeze page is best for you now, a squeeze page which offers a free report on a subject in exchange for the visitors email OR a squeeze page which pre sells a product which they are redirected to after they opt in?

What way are you applying on your site? which is more advantages to grow your list?

I think you forget about one other step that will (in most cases) works best.

First let them opt in on your free report to get their email address. After that direct them to your offer.

This way you kill two birds with one stone!

Edit: I now see I misread your post and you already gave this answer. I should use the second option. This way you build your list much faster which you can use to send offers on a more regular base.
