GZIP Compression doesn't help SEO but if you suppose that the loading speed of a website can help SEO then it could help because GZIP Compression will improve loading for your website.

If you are on cheap shared hosting it could actually slow your site load time. GZIP uses additional server resources and if the server you are on is already over sold it will take additional time to compress the page.

if your website use wordpress. you can install gzip plugins. it will help you active gzip in your website.

It would be more effective to activate gzip from cPanel or even .htaccess not a 3rd party plugin.
