High Performance Servers with Traditional or Lightning-Fast Storage Options

PCIe NVMe is a new technology that significantly outperforms SSD and HDD

SSD outperformed HDD because the latency or response time of this storage media improved drastically over mechanical drives by as much a thousand times. One thing HDD and SSD have in common is the SATA interface. SATA was developed with mechanical hard drives in mind, and cant match PCIe speeds. NVMe servers eliminate that issue.

Putting the speed of NVMe into perspective

When establishing a direct connection to PCIe, NVMe outperforms a high performance SSD by 6 times. While the Samsung 860 Pro SATA SSD can read up to 560MB/s, the Samsung 960 NVMe can read up to 3,200MB/s. This equates to server performance that the user can see and feel.

If storage devices were cars, in the amount of time it would take for a 15K HDD to travel the length of a 100-meter dash, a NAND Flash SSD could traverse the length of a marathon (26.2 miles). NVMe could travel from New York to Los Angeles and back in the same amount of time.

A Quick Comparison

Sequential read:

  • WD Black Edition 7,200rpm (215MB/s)
  • Samsung 860 Pro SSD (560MB/s)
  • Samsung 960 NVMe (3,200MB/s)

Sequential write

  • WD Black Edition 7,200rpm (215MB/s)
  • Samsung 860 Pro SSD (530MB/s)
  • Samsung 960 NVMe (1,900MB/s)

Random read IOPS

  • WD Black Edition 7,200rpm (84)
  • Samsung 860 Pro SSD (100,000)
  • Samsung 960 NVMe (380,000)

Random write IOPS

  • WD Black Edition 7,200rpm (207)
  • Samsung 860 Pro SSD (90,000)
  • Samsung 960 NVMe (360,000)

Dont be fooled by NVMe modules that run in SATA mode.

The Non-Volatile Memory Express technology on our servers takes advantage of PCIe’s bandwidth to create incredibly fast SSDs that blast SATA-based drives out of the water, fully exploiting the performance of high-end SSDs.
NVMe modules like the 960 EVO are engineered to take advantage of the unique properties of pipeline-rich, random access, memory-based storage. NVMe also reflects improvements in methods to lower data latency.

Why settle for slow servers?

Dictionaries define “slow” as SCSI, SAS, PATA and SATA. Why? These are protocols that date back decades! They were based on hard drives that spun like tops – very mechanical in nature, thus prone to all sorts of failures and limitations based on rotation speeds and read/write heads.

NVMe reduces I/O overhead

NVMe doesnt just take advantage of lower data latency, it reduces I/O overhead, giving it the ability to process multiple long command queues. It only needs a single message for 4KB transfers compared to two, which increases server speed when processing tons of concurrent disk I/O requests.

NVMe is a performance based solution

Traditional storage requires an ACHI (SATA) or SAS controller to connect mechanical hard disks to the PCIe bus, but NVMe eliminates that bridge and instead makes a direct connection.
SSD was a performance based solution because the latency or response time of the storage media improved drastically over mechanical drives, by as much a thousand times. Conversely, the bottleneck with under-performing NVMe is the SATA interface. When establishing a direct connection to PCIe, NVMe outperforms SSD by 6 times.

Our NVMe servers address SATA mode inefficiencies

Our NVMe servers address those inefficiencies, capitalizing on the low latency and parallelism of PCI Express SSDs, – complementing the parallelism of contemporary CPUs, platforms and applications.

to my team, there are a few questions, I would ask before purchasing.

Is this a managed dedicaterd server?
WHM/cPanel is included in this price?
Where is server location?
What is type of DDoS Protection?

Thanks for the queries.

Is this a managed server? No, but we do include self service tools like automated restores, remote reset, a rescue system and KVM over IP.

WHM/cPanel is included in this price? No, you can add cPanel for $45/Month or alternatively, Plesk starting at $10/Month.

Where is the server location? The server is physically located in Saint Louis, MO. Centrally located, St. Louis is home to a significant convergence of major carriers. In addition, Hostirian has multiple 10GE connections that we can expand at any time. Our network is multi-homed to Charter, Cogent and CenturyLink.

What is the type of DDoS Protection? We utilize a cloud based DDoS solution which is the optimal choice for DDoS attacks too big for on-premise hardware to manage. Your team can rely on our massive global network and scrubbing capacity to defend your Internet presence.
