To fix broken links, you need first to identify which links are broken. There are numerous different ways to find broken links. Use Google Webmaster Tools to set up a custom filter on your Google Analytics account for your 404 Error page. Also, you can manually check each link.

Second Fix Broken links :

Fix Broken External links: You can either remove them or replace them with valid links

Fix Broken internal link:
  1. Identify whether it was caused by a typo or a misspelling.
  1. Redirect broken link: use the 301 methods to redirect, or if not possible, to redirect with 301 then and then only redirect to the Home page.
  1. Delete Broken link: Only delete If the broken link is genuinely not essential to your website,

Hi james,
first, find your all broken links from deadlink checker websites. If your website is WordPress then you install the redirection plugin.
give old URL and new URL in that plugin.
Your site URL will be fixed

Hii. It's a matter of concern if your website got lots of broken links. Well, nothing to worry about it. You can still work on your website to fix this issue and improve your site.

Please follow the steps:

  1. Audit your website through an online broken link checker, which is free to use. Simply put your site URL, and you will get a list of broken links present on your site. You can also check the same on search console.
  2. Check the lists of broken links. Look at the links that show 404 in the server response. It means the page with this URL is not found.

Here arises two scenarios when you look for broken links:
  • You may have internal links that are broken.
  • You may have external links that are broken.

Tip: Go through the URLs to distinguish the internal and external links by looking at the domain names.

a. What you should do if you have a link that is external and broken:
  1. Best way is to remove the external link.
  2. If it is necessary to use an external link on the page, try to add another relevant link, that can replace the existing one.

b. What to do with the internal links that are broken:
  1. Sometimes we do is misspell the URL while inserting it, so it is essential to check the spelling of the URL. It should be your first and foremost task.
  2. Check if you can use the broken link to a newly built page. For this, you have to build a new page.
  3. Best suggestion is to use 301 redirects as per the google guidelines where you can redirect your old page to an existing page that is relevant to the page which is broken.

Hope I was clear and helped you. If you are not sure how to do it, just reach out any digital marketing service providing company. They will analyze your whole website; fix the 404 as well as other technical issues that are not letting your website perform well.

To fix all the broken links you need to find them first. To find broken links you need to analyze your site first. then when you find all the broken links redirect them with 301 to a new page or create a custom 404 error page so if the user gets any page having the 404 error template the user is automatically redirected to a new page of the site.

Improving broken links and increasing page ranking are two separate aspects of SEO, but they can be addressed simultaneously. Here are steps you can take to tackle both:

  1. Identify Broken Links: Start by identifying broken links on your website. Broken links are hyperlinks that lead to non-existent or inaccessible pages. They can negatively impact user experience and SEO. You can use tools like Google Search Console, Ahrefs, or Broken Link Checker to scan your website and identify broken links.
  2. Fix or Remove Broken Links: Once you've identified broken links, take action to fix them. You have a few options:
    a. Update the Link: If the broken link is pointing to a page that has moved or changed its URL, update the link to the correct URL.
    b. Redirect the Link: If the broken link is pointing to a page that no longer exists but has a similar or relevant replacement, set up a 301 redirect to redirect users and search engines to the new page.
    c. Remove the Link: If the broken link is no longer relevant or cannot be fixed, consider removing the link altogether. This can be done by either deleting the link or using the rel="nofollow" attribute to indicate to search engines that the link should not be followed.
  3. Monitor and Maintain: Regularly monitor your website for broken links. As you add or remove pages, update your internal and external links to ensure they remain active and relevant. Consider using tools or plugins that automatically check for broken links on an ongoing basis.
  4. Improve Page Ranking: While fixing broken links helps with the technical aspect of SEO, there are additional steps you can take to improve your page ranking (in case you want some help with that, contact Rank Engine service
    a. Quality Content: Create valuable, well-written, and unique content that satisfies the search intent of your target audience. Focus on providing useful information and addressing relevant topics.
    b. On-Page Optimization: Optimize your page titles, meta descriptions, headings, and content with relevant keywords. Ensure your content is properly structured, easy to read, and includes multimedia elements (images, videos) where appropriate.
    c. Backlink Building: Build high-quality backlinks from authoritative and relevant websites. This can be achieved through outreach, guest blogging, content promotion, and building relationships with influencers in your industry.
    d. User Experience: Enhance the user experience of your website by improving page loading times, optimizing for mobile devices, and ensuring easy navigation and clear site structure.
    e. Social Signals: Engage with your audience on social media platforms, encourage social sharing, and promote your content to increase visibility and generate traffic.
By addressing broken links and implementing effective SEO practices, you can enhance user experience, improve search engine visibility, and increase your page ranking over time.
