Hi,

Try to contact the sites with broken links and request them to update or remove the links pointing to your site.
If you can’t get the broken links removed through outreach, use Google’s Disavow Tool to tell Google to ignore these links.

To remove broken links, use a link checker tool like Screaming Frog. Update or remove broken links, set up redirects if needed, and regularly monitor your site for maintenance.

To remove broken backlinks, identify them using tools like Google Search Console or Ahrefs. Reach out to the sites with broken links and request removal or update. If you can't contact them, use Google’s Disavow Tool to prevent these links from affecting your SEO performance.

Run a report to see the sources of your backlinks.
Review the results to see which links may be affecting your rankings.
Attempt to remedy the bad links by asking site owners to remove them. You may or may not be successful.
Prepare a list of sites to disavow.

You can not remove broken backlinks directly directly from Google Search Console because it only reports the problem and does not control other websites. The easiest way to handle this is to redirect the broken page to a relevant working page. If the page was deleted by mistake, bringing it back with the same link is also a good option. And if the page is no longer needed, its okay to leave it as it is, Google eventually ignore it. For valuable links, you can also reach out to the website owner and request an update.

You can’t directly “remove” broken backlinks from Google Search Console, but you can fix or handle them in a few effective ways:
  1. Check the source
Identify where the broken backlinks are coming from and which URLs are returning 404 errors.
  2. Fix the URLs (Best option)
If the page should exist, restore it or set up a 301 redirect to the most relevant live page.
  3. Reach out to site owners
Contact the linking websites and ask them to update the broken URL to the correct one.
  4. Ignore low-quality links
Google usually ignores broken backlinks if they’re not harmful.
  5. Use Disavow (only if needed)
If the broken links are spammy and hurting your SEO, submit them via Google’s Disavow Tool.
