Most of browser have by default page is Google. You can understand its popularity by this example. Ability to provide relevant search query in less time on Google is better compare to other SE. Most of search or user traffic generate from Google SE. That's why Google is popular for any kind of search.

I think nowadays, more & more peoples are spending their time over internet. And they search their needs, problems and their solutions on search engines because Google provides fast, free & relevant results to users. So, everybody wants on top of Google.

So, if you want to get traffic to your site or generate lead from search engine than you have occupy good position in Google. In fact I read somewhere do know exactly where but some people are using Google to check weather there internet connection is works or not.
