How to solve overload on your web hosting?

What could you do if your web hosting is overload and making your website crash?

That depends on how your hosting the website and what is causing if to crash.

Are you on shared hosting, VPS, dedicated server, or what?

Is the website properly optimised? Do you use a CDN?

How much traffic does your site get per day?

Is your website too much for the hosting your on, or is your site hosted on a server that is overloaded from other customers websites?

What kind of scripts are you running on your website? The number one reason for high loads are poorly optimized WordPress-scripts.

Depends whether it's your website thats causing the overload, or simply your provider is overselling which is causing the server itself to overload.

Who is your current Hosting Provider? If you say HostGator, I should mention that a lot of their plans aren't very wordpress friendly. Speaking of wordpress, is that the script that is powering your website?

The reason for your website crash, because of low quality hosting server, requesting you to change to some other reliable hosting provider who will provide you fast & secure web hosting, please note before selecting any web hosting provider please ensure that they provide good & fast support.

To be fair, I would not immediately place the blame on his web host.

There are a lot of low quality hosting providers out there, but we shouldn't assume this is his problem.

Most often, the problem with a slow site is because it is poorly programed or configured, or someone is trying to run a very popular website on a small sized shared hosting package.

There are many other things to consider before telling him to jump ship.

My friend I am not completely agree with your reasons, when any site "CRASH" the most powerful reason is that LOW COST server, if server is good, fast & secure, there may be other problems like bandwidth limitation but site will never "CRASH".

So if I have a poorly written, dynamic website which leaves DB connections open, runs frequent cron jobs, has thousands of files, etc.
Let's say I promote the site so that it is getting a ton of traffic and consistently using 100,000+ Inodes.

You're saying that your shared hosting plan will run this no problem, not be againsts your TOS, and never crash?

1. If site "getting a ton of traffic" - again, site will down for bandwidth limitation.

2. If site against my TOS - hosting a/c & site will be temporary Suspended. Why it will crash ??

"Crash" is a vague term and the OP did not elaborate. Could be DB connections timeout, script errors, bandwidth limit due to over usage, or account suspended.

Simply suggesting he find a different hosting provider will not necessarily help his situation, and could actually make it worse.

That's false. Without running any kind of resource limitation, it'll eat away at the servers resources. If it's bad enough, it'll freeze the process running it (or suspend the process).
With resouce controls (such as CloudLinux), it'll hit the cap and become unavailable for anyone. That's my definition of a crash. What's yours?

@digitalConnect there are many ways that the term "crashed" can be referenced in this industry.

1. Customer reached web hosting resource limits (Memory, CPU, Inode, I/O) and the website "Crashed" and threw errors.
2. The customers software is extremely resource intensive and caused Apache or MySQL to hang.
3. The server crashed, which would be no fault of the customer, and he would have no reason to be asking how to lower his resource consumption.

Don't immediately jump to conclusions that the host is running a horrible server, as 90% of the time this statement is completely inaccurate. Shared Hosting accounts are typically allotted a specific number of resources as per their price point, and if the software the customer is using for their website is not correctly built or maintained it may result in the customer hitting those resource limits, which can be resolved simply by making changes to the software or upgrading to the next price point.

Your argument is null and I could not trust it either way as per your claim of offering "Unlimited" hosting.. Please let me know where you bought your "Unlimited GB" hard drive, I would love to purchase one of them

Then it is time to move to another hosting provider that does not overload. Of course it is not easy to find a reliable hosting provider so do a good research and check reviews before signing up with any hosting company.
