Hey Guys! Here is another reason why you should avoid any EIG-Brand Hosting Company (Hostgator, iPage).
Today I received 15 email marketing messages from them promoting a Hostgator and iPage promotion, I never opted into their mailing list.
MEANING they are scraping the internet for emails. What makes things worst, there is no opt-out procedure.
I did some digging, and they aren't even using their own servers to send the email, they are using a VPS from Linode so that they don't get their own IPs blacklisted.

UPDATE: Linode abuse dept responded fast. They have suspended the 5 IPs I have received emails from.

As a provider myself, I don't take kindly to dirty marketing tactics. I am all for fair and friendly competition, I have friends in the industry who I lend a hand to from time to time, however there is a line. Time and time again I see EIG cross this line, and this time they broke a few laws. Being such a large corporation, I have submitted a complaint to the government body that is in charge of upholding laws in regards to SPAM.

It's typical to see these big conglomerates trying to push the envelope as far as they possibly can. Their mindset is, if we get caught, oh well we can pay the fine and do it again in the near future :shake:
