What is the best way to get more traffic for a website, forum posting or blog comment?

I have read various sources saying that linking in signature is best way to increase backlinks and traffic to your website as each time you comment on a forum thread. Is this true? If so, so how can I do it correctly?

High authority blogs that get a lot of visitors and updated frequently can bring a lot of traffic to your site, as much as high traffic forums can bring you a lot of traffic. I would say do them both and see what works well for you and your business.

All I'm saying is that there's no best way, both will work fine, depending on how you tackle them.

It's partly true, not all forums allow dofollow links in the signature so those won't count as a backlink, but might bring you a lot of traffic. Forum backlinks don't carry a lot of weight either and in most cases it won't help you rank. Don't use forums for backlink purposes, use it for traffic, networking, helping people, getting help etc.

That's a good question, and in my opinion. You simply have to offer value and help people. In a forum situation, you want to place your link in the signature and help forum members with their questions. Don't focus on creating too many posts, instead only answer questions that you have more knowledge about, anything that is related to what you're promoting. In that case you can be able to focus on other forums, blog and other marketing strategies.

You can even strike a deal with a highly active forum member to put your link in their signature, maybe for a commission or monthly payment or whatever deal you both agree on. Connect with members of the forum especially the admin and the mods, if you're stuff is really good and it works, then the admin and mods can help you spread the word, but make sure you add some value to the forum first before asking for any favors. Unless if the forum already has a marketplace then you can simply place your offer there and scale from there.

Same process applies to blog commenting, you simply have to add value in the comment sections. But it doesn't have to stop there, you can also answer questions left by other blog readers. It doesn't have to stop there either, keep adding value, replying to other comments (not just questions but maybe someone who's just posting misinformation etc.), connecting with the blog reader/followers and the blog owner. Each time the blog owner replies to your comments you get closer and closer to them and might end up getting a guest posting gig.

So what you need to do is to join high traffic forums in your niche and get a list of frequently updated high traffic blogs (do both forum posting & blog commenting). Visit these sites daily and add value, do this each day and as you keep posting you need to track which sites are bringing you the results you want (you can use google analytics), then filter out anything that is wasting your time and focus on what's bringing positive results.

Blog commenting helps to drive good traffic to your website, but forum promotion depends on the type of forum your are submitting links. Forum often provide inorganic traffic for your website which is of very less important to your business. The only fruitful traffic comes from the market place of a forum where you advertise your services. Moreover blog comments help much to get organic traffic to a considerable amount.

In addition to that, keep in mind that it really only makes sense to promote your website on forums and blogs if those forums and blogs share the same audience that you are trying to attract to your website. If the audience is a good match, then building up a presence there can work very well, especially once you make some friends there. If the audience is not a good match, then don't bother trying to promote yourself there, especially with links.

Have you ever seen people who are on an internet marketing forum dropping links to places like random businesses completely unrelated to the topic of the forum? That is a giant waste of time on their part. The odds of them getting even one customer from doing it is pretty much zilch. And if the forum allows dofollow links and the person is dropping keyword rich anchor text, then they are probably setting themselves up for a massive ranking demotion in Google anyway. It simply isn't good to have too many inbound links from pages with nearly zero PageRank and nearly zero trust and nearly zero relevance to the link.

In short term forum would win this match up in term of traffic, on the regular blogs there are many people who just drop the comment and be gone, sometimes they don't even read other comments. But in the forum especially in the strong community when you read what other people write you might often doubt who are they? and check their sites which bring them a great number of traffic.

Regarding the backlinks, forum can generate a lot of links but they can be harmful sometimes if you have only few sources of link. One of my client expect to get thousands of link from local forum and the ranking went worst, probably because it was only one source of his 1000 links.

I understand that quality comment is much more harder to get since you need to focus on non-spammy and manual-approved blogs. But they really worth the effort if you can get the link from quality post with high traffic, those post usually rank well in SERP too so you might expect some traffic juice in very long run, it will increase your visibility over the internet and the referral domains will be more diverse.

So get a lot of links from various blogs and forums, i usually post on the same blog once or twice a week to bond the relation ship with blog owners, you also get some weekly links from different posts of them.

You are right in saying that they can be harmful. I got a new domain with very high quality content on it "nuked by Google" with only about 40 dofollow keyword rich anchor text links. Penguins can be quite sensitive. I was surprised it took so little.

ํYes actually i think it shouldn't be since sometimes people don't really intend to get tons of link from forum, but they might get more than they expect. So yeah should be careful and be sure before putting links in signature, some forums even allow people to include 5 links for each person, that can be tons of external link in a thread too.

Both will work if traffic is high on those websites. but my personal suggestion is forum posting because i enjoy doing this and easy.

Honestly, I would say that if you are trying to decide between blog commenting or forum posting as your primary methods for driving traffic, you should probably take a step back and take another look at your marketing plan. You are on the fast track to failure at that point.

To answer the question though, there are too many variables to suggest that one is better than the other. It depends on the sites involved really. Neither one is going to bring you a very good ROI though. In other words, the time it takes to "do it right" will rarely, if ever, bring you enough good converting traffic to make the time investment worthwhile.

I believe both are same one-way or another. Neither of them has any particular advantages or disadvantages. One should do both.

Nyteshade above has answered your question in the best way. Although I do think Google still counts links with the nofollow tag. But I always think of it as forums for traffic, blogs for ranking, Might be beat to get a 'natural link' like in a forum post rather than on the comment section. If you right good content people will link to your site anyway, just be patient.

I think you need to be careful with signature linking on forums when you have a new website.

This because you are building to quickly new links to your site. I've done this in the past and got sandboxed for this by Google.
